The unquantifiable final ingredient for a fighter. Which ones simply didn't have it?

Wladimir Klitschko and Gerry Cooney both immediately spring to mind.

Well, Wlad Klit has FOUND his missing pieces, but Gerry Cooney never did........ Howard Davis and Razor Ruddock were suppose to be champions, but failed in their bids to do something.... That goes for Yaqui Lopez, as well...... Johnny Bumphus and Mark Breland actually won world titles, but they were flops as pros'.... Tyrell Biggs flopped, too......... Lotsa' busts occur in boxing..... Cheers..

Shannon Briggs has always been a mystery to me as to why he never achieved what he should have at the HW division.

Likewise on the previously mentioned Donovan "Razor" Ruddock.

Hasn't Briggs been inactive for a year and a half now?

Also, both Ruddock and Briggs suffered from extreme asthma. That's certainly a quantifiable shortcoming.

I suppose Tua, he seemed to have incredible talent but never quite got there, Super sanders is another.

Tyrone Crawley never made it all the way, either...

    Russell,

Tyrone Crawley was a very popular lightweight back in the early to mid-80's.... His career came to a halt when he was KO'd by Livy Bramble in a WBA title fight in 1985..... Crawley later took a job as a cop in Philly... Crawley was a slick & quick boxer with no power.....

    Good call on Ruddock.

Physically he had it all - 6'3", 80" reach, huge power in his left and a good arsenal of punches when he chose to use them, good chin and his intagibles like heart and determination were top-notch as well.
If Coetzee who had asthma can become a champ, why not Ruddock?

Mostly because he fought stupidly, I'd imagine. He overused his left, had gaping holes defensively and believed too much in his power.
Still, if guys like Ruiz, Byrd and other less talented heavies could have won a belt, I think Ruddock could have and probably should have.

I try to limit my picks of folks who should've won a title but failed.... That's why guys like "Howard Davis, Tyrone Crawley & Razor Ruddock" all come to mind... Even Tyrell Biggs was once considered a threat... The late Jerry Quarry? Jerry Quarry just fought in a GREAT era..... Peace....
