According to the "Boxing Fitness" book I own...Kosta used to Bench 115lb for sets of 70 reps! Amazing Muscular Endurance. Most of us here Max out over 200lb so we look down and think "115lb thats nothing"..but in reality. 70 reps is a ****ing lot! Especially when we take into account he was only a 140lb fighter. You are only supposed to be able to bench press your body weight 10x for good strength...I bet he can do 4 or 5x that amount!
terry norris massive weight workouts, shane mosley uses weights, foreman comeback did a very heavy regime of them, bruno.... was a big builder and pressed ALOT
Yes I'm sure he can benchpress 600-750lbs for 10reps :nut BTW Bench isnt 1 of the best exercises for punching power
I think he meant 10 reps of your bodyweight..Ie whatever Kostya weighed on average he would be lifting for 10 reps. Im pretty sure Kostya benched something around 120kg in his prime..something pretty impressive but I dont think he was a big proponent of doing to much weight training.
I think George Chuvalo was one of the first HW's to be really commited to heavy weight training. I remember once seeing a photo of him doing a fairly heavy Seated Press Behind the Neck.
Nah Suzie is just tripping Kostya C&J'ed 120kg too which is more impressive and more conjusive to explosive punching ability
That guy Jumbo Cummings started out in prison doing weightlifting or pwerlifting before switching to boxing. You can just see from his physique he's incredibly strong, not just bulging arms and delts and pectorals but he's got amzing muscles on his back and legs. I reckon he had a high squat and deadlift.
Does anyone remember Tye Field's physique when he was first hyped? Im sure he was very muscular and cut up. Probably says something that he switched his training habits and did better having a less muscular build.
