I remember looking at Biggs dance in round one of the Tyson fight and thinking to myself "This guy has the tools needed to dominate the Heavyweight division as a pure boxer" and then Tyson lands flush and Biggs immediately goes into survival mode.

The skills were there but not the heart.

 

Goya Vargas . Took Hodgkison apart at feather weight lost to Kelly then seems to of vanished. Looked like a possible great fighter

all brilliantly talented.Judah Lazily coasted through some of his fights if he couldn’t knock the guy out in the first 4 rounds.Abraham and Broner would drift in and out of fights trying hard for 6 or 7 rounds in total and do very little in other rounds,Broner relied on his accuracy and Abraham on his defence and power.And of course there is Golota too.Ruiz,Byrd,Bowe 1 and 2,Grant,Faded Tyson,all fights he had a very good chance of winning but didn’t win any of them.

 

Devon Alexander could be brilliant for three minutes. Three minutes and one second was asking too much. It was very strange to see. It is why I say focus is a skill. If you can't maintain it at a high level, you can be an awesome athlete with all the technical skill in the world and still get your arse handed to you by people who aren't really doing anything that well. Andre Dirrell definitely comes to mind too.

I was watching a movie once where they used to call him "The Merciful Clown." Good call.

Problem with Stribling was the immaturity.

 

Brilliant choice, sir. I watched him v Hoko and thought he was the new Sanchez. He was incredible then just fizzled out instantly.

Jose Luis Lopez might be in the same bracket. All the tools - chin and power absolute top drawer - decent skills but he preferred a big bifter to running at four in the morning. Strange, that.

 

He was 28 and had won over 200 fights when he died, hard to imagine him maturing more if he'd lived, and he'd probably had most of his fights.
