Not sure it's wise including McClellan against Benn in there....

definetely, i have that in my list too.
McCellan was under 30 then. Too short of a career for him

No, I mean it makes no sense to include McClellan here because it's supposed to be a list of fighters who could / should have bounced back from big-time defeats, but failed to. McClellan never had that opportunity as his career was ended by the Benn fight.

Surely you can see why that fight has no business being mentioned alongside the others you've listed?

Removed McClellan from the list. I was not aware that he was severely injured leading up to that fight.

There ws no way he could have thought he would bounce back as he suffeed brain damage from a blood clot, I was watching, it was tragic.

I thought David Reid would go on to fulfill some of his promise after Trinidad beat him. The same for Vargas but both looked fairly ordinary in their next couple of fights and were bordering on shot.

I’d heard Dawson May have been shot coming into the Ward fight. He’d been KO’d multiple times in sparring, including by Edison Miranda.

Great picks. But, to be fair Dawson and Bute beat themselves by fighting the scales instead of their opponent. Froch even admitted that at the weighin that he already knew both Bute and Groves were already beaten at the weighin, since both were huge weight cutters.

Also, back in the day when Floyd Mayweather Sr. said Dawson was an idiot he was right. Dawson hadn't fought at 168 for years, but at 30 years old it suddenly seemed like a good idea to cut weight and fight the best guy at 168. I didn’t even bother watching the fight, since you can’t just hand a ruthless and shameless guy like Ward a free advantage and not expect him to make it count.

As for Hamed he barely threw his big left against Barrera due to injury. Without the power from his left he had nothing to keep Barrera honest. Even in his last fight against Calvo Hamed’s left hand was almost nonexistent and he was hesitating to throw it.

Gamboa unfortunately was ruined due to inactivity, which seems to be the killer of most Cuban fighters.

Tyson. Maybe through circumstance as much as complete loss of form as he looked frightening against Tillman and Stewart but then he obviously had legal troubles as well as looking bad enough by his standards in the second Ruddock fight for Boxing Monthly to run the headline 'Is Mike Tyson shot?' And the rest is history with him being viewed by many as a front runner with a short prime.

I definitely thought at the time he'd sort the blip out and be back.

Taylor actually was doing alright until he decided to go up to 154 and take on Terry Norris.
