Fighters who you thought would become superstars

Katsidis isn´t done yet and people thought he would be a second Gatti but not a superstar.

 

Maybe it is too early to write him off completely, but I honestly thought he'd be the dog's proverbials at lightweight but there are many ahead of him now.

 

Naseem Hamed - could have been truly great, had more potential than Barrera/Morales and thats saying something

Joan Guzman - ****ed it all up at the scales. Hes P4P no1 ability wise however

Junior Witter - thought he had the style to take Hatton down, never got his shot

At the moment Bad Chad Dawson looks like the ****

 

I thought that jeff lacey was going to be a superstar, this was after he beat robin read in 7 rounds i thought "**** me robin's got a good chin, he's gonna be a great fighter" Then he fought calzaghe!

On the eve of the fight i was certain he would beat calzaghe and become a legand on the back of it. Then i saw the fight, and lacey got beaten so much you would of fought he was a novice. Next was mikkel kessler.

When he fought calzaghe again i thought he would beat him, and become a legand on the back of it. Then he lost, but unlike lacey he still might - make it as he has alot of quality's that could still propel him to superstardom!

 

Dont laugh but Andrew Golota for me, saw some of his early fights and liked him, then thought he had bowe beat and then......... well then it went to pieces, and that night against lewis was a total shocker for me to be honest, really believed he had a good chance if he got it right

 

Audley Harrison. No, really: as late as 2004, he looked like a very real prospect to someone who didn't know much about the heavyweight division at the time. I mean, he'd beaten two undefeated boxers in world title fights! Wow! Only when he announced he was taking a year out from boxing did it click.

Sinan Samil Sam was another heavyweight who seemed to be going places at one point in time. People forget just how fearsome he looked against Danny Williams: he was bullying around one of the strongest boxers in the world.

Moving back to when I was very young: I thought Garry Delaney was really going somewhere until he started having weight issues.

Scott Pemberton twice seemed to be building up some steam in his career, before his loss in his classic brawl with Brewer and again before Lacy demolished him. People forget how promising the Sandman looked back then.

 

On Sam, yeah, he looked a hell of a fighter on form.

He knocked Danny William's down several times, every time with a single, crisp punch. Compare that to what Vitali and Tyson would have to do to him years later then when Sam fought him.

Not to mention Sinan's cast iron jaw.

 

And awesome monicker: the "Bull from the Bosporus".

John Conteh - Had it All, good Looks and classy style ...then the nightclubs beckoned...

 

howard davis had all of the physical tools. but imo he lacked in on dept. he did not have what it took to fight through adversity. he was a quintessential front runner. if he got touched, he went directly into a safety first mode. throwing his gameplan out of the window.
and it is a shame because he was a very gifted boxer.

I wasn't really sold on Domick Guinn until after he beat Dokiwari, which I thought was a great fight and a great win, but he never quite panned out.

 

I thought Bennett , the heavyweight from the 2000 games would become something, unfortunately he never aspired to, he was reduced to being just a run of the mill cruiserweight .. shame... Just like Brock the superheavy was, a half decent guy who couldn't cut the mustard at the very top...

 

Reminds me of Bentt, which reminds me of Herbie Hide's demolision job on Michael. Hide seemed to be a terrific prospect until his courageous but devastating loss to Riddick Bowe. Up until his chin was exposed, Hide seemed to be a very good prospect: huge power, quick hand/foot speed, good punch variety and an obsessive gym-rat.
