Interesting question. Joe was on welfare during his twenties, and entered many fights starving and badly trained,as he simply needed the money at short notice. The best that was ever seen of him was between 1947-52.

I disagree, Tyson was pretty much shot at 24, he was on the downward slope after the Spinx fight and 3 years in prison didnt exactly help that decline.

Tyson is ALWAYS judged on the Douglas, Holyfield and Lennox fights IMO.
Douglas was a fluke fight, he showed he was great for one night and Mike took him lightly and paid for it. In a rematch Tyson would hand Douglas his ass.
He fought Holyfield after 3 years in prison but most people like to ignore that, beating a shot and scared to death Bruno doesnt prepare anyone for a Holyfield, and Tyson was on the slide BEFORE prison
When he fought Lennox in 2003 he was 15 years removed from his prime, enough said.

If a fighters wins past prime count for ANYTHING, than a loss post prime needs to count for something.

Very famous boxing historian said that. Some German guy. He's got a point.

Sugar Ray Robinson was 128-1-2 at one point and already had many MW wins but people act like he was prime when he fought guys like Turpin, Basilio, Fullmer, etc.

Ezzard Charles fought Rocky Marcinao in his 98th and 99th pro fights. He went just 10-13 after

It's sad but true that most younger fans know Alexis Arguello only for his two losses to Pryor. Arguello/Pryor I was El Flaco's 83rd pro fight, and he was two divisions north of his beast weight. Arguello's peak was probably late 1974 thru 1979.

Jim Jeffries is perhaps the ultimate case of a legacy being tarnished by a single past prime loss.

Jack Johnson knocked him down and he has still never got up!
