The McCallum-Jackson fight GreatA was kind enough to post made me think of this. McCallum had significant punching power at 154, but he was hard pressed to dent many chins at 160, and his power was almost nonexistent at 175.

Wilfredo Gomez has been argued as another, but I might challenge that. I think his "lack of power" at 126 had as much to do with whom he was fighting there as anything. Shots tend not to have as much effect when you land against fighters named Sanchez, Nelson, and Laporte, his only real fights at that weight. I think that claim is overplayed a lot.

Michael Spinks- devastating puncher at lightheavy but at heavy he did not carry the same 1 punch power that he did at lightheavy.

Floyd Mayweather Jr- he had reasonable power in the lower weights but he currently is not a very hard puncher.

You could say the same for McCallum as you could for Gomez.

His opposition was generally very tough to stop at 160.He did rock Graham and had Collins out on his feet at one point.Watson was worn down as well, though more through bodypunching/nervous tension fatigue than any heavy handedness.

Benn at 168 and Jones at 175, though both were still hit quite hard.

Shane mosley is a modern one, monster puncher at lightweight but his power seemed to diminish slightly when moving up in weight.Ray Leonards power wasnt nearly as good at higher weights as it was in welterweight aswell

Good point. I still think he lost a bit though, moving up. I suppose you could almost throw 175 out, as that is a huge jump in weight compared to 154.

Gomez was not a KO puncher at 126 or 130.... Look at the record and facts, man...

Mugabi's KO ratio went to hell in the 1990s in the fights he fought there...

As far as Gomez goes, I wouldn't argue 130, because he was a bloated old man there, but read what I wrote in my first post about Gomez at 126.....would you disagree with that? This is one time where numbers lie. You have to look beyond that sometimes.

Mugabi was completely shot after '87, let alone the '90's.

Bob Foster's power didn't seem to bother the heavyweights much at all.

Benn still hit hard at super-middle but not as destrucitve as he was at mw.

He said it took him 4 years to grow into a smw.
