Let's name fighters who are/were even more untouchable than Floyd in their prime

    Rigondeaux
    Willie Pep
    Pernell Whitaker
    Roy Jones (reflexes based)

    who else? :think

:-( every last won of those guys have been dropped in there PRIME. all of them stopped by 37. well not rigon but he only has what 10 fights :huh

mayweather is better then all of guys in the defense department and a smarter fighter.

pernell was more talented when it came to bobbing and weaving and slipping and ducking and bending. nobody did that better but he started getting cracked and dropped a lot in last few fights. plus he has speech problem from taking blows to the head, to many of them. so much for his great defense.

ali used his legs mostly and the rope a dope is terrible thing to do in boxing. ali to many punches to the head :-(

roy was just a super athlete and he broke all the rules in boxing but got a way with them because he was a freakish athlete. when that declined so did his career.

rigo only has 4 fights keep it moving.

sugar put prime pep to bed.

    Bernard Hopkins!!!!

Mayweather has taken more clean shots in his shorter career than Hopkins has in his 50+ fights.
No one has ever beaten on BHOP as much as Cotto beat on Mayweather.

Did you miss the ¨more untouchable in their PRIME¨ part?

Pernell and Ali declined a lot faster than Floyd because they fought harder opposition, they didn't duck the toughest challenges available, like a certain someone did (+ other circumstances, like Pernell's drug addiction or Ali's ban from boxing)

In Roy Jone's case, getting older and ****ing up with his weight did him in. His defense wasn't good at all technically speaking, but in his prime he was untouchable thanks to his incredible speed/reflexes, atributes that decline FAST with age

anyway, point is, in their prime, these guys were as untouchable as Floyd, or more, against better opposition

Floyd is not TBE, not even in defense.

Locche and Whitaker come close but in my opinion, their defense focused more on the downright evasive, reflexive side of things

Mayweather's defense features great reflexes but in my opinion he is also more technically gifted than the aforementioned duo. Hi reflexes and speed have dipped over the years yet he is still hard to hit due to his positioning, footwork, upper body movement and scary ring IQ.

By 37, whitaker and Locche were getting hit a lot more as they weren't as strong in the more fundamental side of defense, although they were still great fighters.

As for Pep, I haven't seen enough of him to judge, I understand he was an immense technical fighter

RJJ doesn't belong in this discussion. He was more of a great athlete than boxer

Rigondeaux is an elite fighter yet his defense is slightly overrated in my opinion. he has been buzzed at least 3 times and dropped twice in only 14 fights, one of which was against a pretty average Cordoba. Both of those instances occurred whilst he wasn't throwing much either, so no excuses. Having said that, in terms of the classic fundamentals of defense (bobbing, weaving etc. notwithstanding), he is the only fighter who can rival mayweather for ring IQ, footwork work and placement and upper body movement

    James Toney.

His defensive skills took him from MW to HW without being stopped.
