Can anyone think of any fighters with the above description?

Fighters who clearly had some pop but didn`t quite make the cut to the next level.

Oscar`s power in the lower weights was lethal. It only dilluted when he kept moving up.

Evander Holyfield at heavy is a good pick imo.

Ali would be an obvious choice if we,re talking classic.

Present day I think Martinez fits that description. The P-Dubb shot was just a perfect punch. On a normal day he has very good but not great power.

While we're on the topic. Pac fits there too. Sergio over PDubb and Pac over Hatton are both sort of the same thing. Perfect punches. Neither are KO artists. But both used to overwhelm their opponents over the course of a fight.

I agree with Ali but again Pac was a big puncher in the feathers and lower weights imo.

He's got heavy-hands and is a good puncher (especially when his opponents on the ropes) but he's not a one punch KO machine.

I actually think most of the punchers you can name fit into this catagory. Its more rare to name fighters that actually have great power.

I agree, very few have real one punch ko power.

    Marvin Hagler
    Sugar Ray Leonard
    Salvador Sanchez
    Azumah Nelson
    Larry Holmes
    Muhammad Ali
    Evander Holyfield
    Roberto Duran
    Julio Cesar Chavez

Actually, as alluded to before, most great fighters have "good" or "very good" power, but not great Julian Jackson, Alexis Arguello-like power.

  12. The hell you're talking about?

Even at 154, he had some amazing knockouts against Mayorga and Vargas. His power was always great at 147 and below, but even at 154, I would say it's above decent.

To answer the topic though, Pacquiao is a good example. He has good power but with his speed and angles, his power feels like great power.

It's rare to find fighters with truly great power. There's few freakish punchers out there, but many with good to very good power.
