During the Bute-Andrade fight Lennox said this after the knockout. How true is this statement? Any other example where a granite chinned fighter cant take bodyshots?

Makes no sense. Completely unscientific, there should be no reason for a direct correlation. Lennox is desperate to sound insightful at times.

It's not that they are unusually soft to the body but the comparison pales when their ability to take body shots is made against their ability to take headshots. Mayorga was taking a beating from Trinidad to the head but it was the bodyshot that finished him.

You can take a punch better if your body is relaxed. It's the same with car accidents and drunks taking less physical damage than sober people.

When your neck is tense the impact reverberates through the head. The brain shakes because the muscles intend to contract the opposite direction of the force.

When you are relaxed, the muscles release in the direction of the force. Every part of your body has a +/- muscle.

Now of course, you want your stomach to be tense to take a body shot. Since these rubber band men loosen up to take head shots, their bodies are usually very loose and vulnerable.

actually, lewis is not the first to say this and probably wont be the last....

as for the thread title, i remember felix teeing off on mayorga (back when mayorga had a great chin) and had to put him down first by going to the body.

Mosley said something specific about Mexican fighters often being able to take it to the chin all day but having a weakness in the body area.
