Fighters with great power but poor finishing skills

Which fighter or fighters do you know that could hurt or ko someone with one punch, yet when they had a man hurt often couldn't finish him and let him off the hook? Ive always thought of Earnie shavers like this, a huge puncher with mediocre finishing skills.

 

Shavers is naturally the definitive answer here. Morrison might be argued to fit the bill. He only had six wins over the distance, but in four of those, his opponent came off the floor to reach the final bell. Williams came off the deck to return the favor. Tommy dropped Ruddock in one, and Hipp in five, only to have both come back before finally getting put out.

 

I've always thought Norris was an especially sloppy finisher. Far too excited when he had his man hurt, throwing caution to the wind and leaving out any economy in his approach. Got the job done more often than not, though.

 

Colin Jones.Just too methodical and didn't punch in combination enough when he realised he could just starch people with one punch.

Though if he had been fighting a Galaxy level of opposition you probably would have struggled to notice.

Trinidad at jr middle and middle was similar though more talented of course.He'd just shuffle forward and batter you with his quality powershots and the odd combos.Barely any invention or changing of pace offensively anymore

 

Andrew Golota wasn't what I'd call a power puncher, but he was heavy-handed and a poor finisher.

 

Shavers often followed up his huge knockdowns/punches by winging repeated haymakers and lunging in, which allowed his oponent off the hook.

 

Never liked it myself when Norris got too aggressive, i always thought he was at his best when he was on his toes moving, boxing and using his speed.

 

Check out what LaPorte does to Lockridge. After that, it seemed to me as if Juan banked excessively on the expectation of repeating that achievement. 22 knockouts in 40 wins are far fewer than he should have had.

Bobby Czyz blew his shot at Hill when he had Virgil down and in very serious trouble early. I never saw anybody else drop Hill with a head shot. Bobby deferred to the referee's errant call of a slip, and failed to follow up his advantage, a mistake Duran would have never made. In the amateurs, Czyz was one of the few known to knock out opponents with body shots. As with LaPorte, he didn't produce as many knockouts as he should have, and Hill would have been a tremendous scalp. Virgil candidly admitted after their bout how badly he was stunned, and that he'd been legitimately floored.

 

Bobby ****ed up similarly against Prince Charles Williams as well.Hurt him badly but let the play get taken away form him over the next few rounds.

 

Shavers personifies this thread. I've never been too impressed by Cleveland Williams' ability to finish it either.

 

And he totally screwed himself out of the Bowe and Ruiz fights

shavers and norris are great answers

at times, foreman is his first incarnation was sloppy as **** trying to finish the job. course with his raw power, sloppy still got the job done quite a bit

lewis was almost too methodical for his own good and baring exceptions like golota and ruddock, really didn't go for the kill enough. more instinct than skill but still

lew jenkins may deserve a mention. for all his power (and amazing power he had) from what i've read he was too undisciplined and out of shape to get it done when he should have

 

Most of the time he was just to drunk.
