Juan Laporte. 40-17 or something from memory. Won a belt at some stage. Fought everyone and I think always gave a good account of himself. Personally think he beat JCC and was robbed. Such was his luck in many fights in my opinion.

Laporte was considered the heir apparent to Salvador Sanchez for quite some time. He was shockingly upset in an over the weight match against Gerald Hayes 23-19-4 (Laporte was WBC Feather champ) and never gained any real steam again. If he had more fire he could have been one heckuva fighter.

Gerald Hayes himself is close to worthy here. He went the distance against guys like Pintor, Chacon, Lockridge, Arguello, Bernard Taylor, Bubba Busceme, lost a SD to Villasana, then beat Negron and Laporte back to back. Some of those fights mentioned earlier featured good performances from Gerald. He fought Perdoza right after beating those two and actually dropped him on his way to a TKO loss. He then went the distance with Taylor again and then the promising Richard Savage in his last fight. He was only ever stopped twice despite his impressive resume of challengers. One was in his 7th pro fight and the other was against Pedroza. I'd say he belongs.

Bunny Sterling (35-18-4) '70s middleweight contender that fought quite a few light heavyweights as well. Known as a skillful pure boxer/mover with stamina and chin issues, he had a slow, near 50/50 start to the first three years of his career. After that, all of his prime losses/draws from 70-76 that were within the middleweight limit were reported to be fights he probably would have won on points had he not had a period of fading badly, often over the last 3-4 rounds (Mundine x2, Bouttier, Calcobrini, Finnegan, Jacopucci).

Sanderline Williams (24-15-1) '80s middleweight contender turned gatekeeper journeyman. A good technician and counterpuncher that was vulnerable to being outworked - he fought a who's who of '80s/ early '90s middleweights and often made for competitive fights where he would make his opponent look bad...Lindell Holmes, Herol Graham, Iran Barkley, Frank Tate, Ron Esset, Don Lee, Merqui Sosa, Nigel Benn, James Toney, Reggie Johnson, Gerald McClellan, Joe Lipsey... a lot of those fights were struggles to solve this guy. After the close , Graham, Barkley and Tate losses, he seemed content to move from contender into not as fit looking gatekeeper; i'd guess he didn't have much support and saw the writing on the wall in those sorts of fights.

I think in Salido's case, the HOF voters should take a second lookl. he had the talent and was a two time champion I think.

    Good, forgotten boxer.

Handsome too. In the 80s, he could have been a teen idol in Mexico if put on telenovelas instead of a boxing ring!

Rafael " Bazooka " Limon anyone?
Dude was in some of the best fights in the late 70's early 80's.
And for a boxer with a mediocre record , always seemed to be fighting on TV ( especially CBS) back in the day.
    Always came to fight!!!

Jose Cuevas was I believe 20-6 before he won the championship.
Than he hit his stride and decimated everyone he faced until he faced Thomas Hearns 10 or 11 fights later.
