Anthony Mundine is the current WBA 'regular' Supermiddleweight Champion and had only a handful of amatuer fights.

Honestly I don't know the story that deep :yep . . . but according the the DVD that I have, he WAS FORCED turned PRO at the age of 15 because he needs the dough to support his family. He became the family bread winner when his father and mother separated.

If you have further stories and details . . .plz enlighten me.:good

the trouble i have with people saying mundine had no amatuer boxing experience , is that he grew up in and around gyms/his father i beleive has a gym and his father was a proffesional boxer.

he might not have had many amatuer fights , but he would have lived and breathed boxing from a very early age.

Mundine watched boxing all the time growing up but most of his time was spent in Rugby League in which he became the highest paid player at the time :yep:yep

johnny nelson had 13 amatuer fights.

    he won 3 of them.

then he turned pro and lost his first 3 on points.

then his record was very patchy losing as many as he won being a kind of journeyman fighter but learning his trade at the same time, but he went on to never lose a fight in the last 10 years of his career and defended his title all over the world in his opponents back yards and took on all comers.

The way I understand it, is that Mundine had a tonne of sparring aswell as a few 'no official' fights as an am back in the day. So he was in a pretty good position in the sport to do reasonably well.
