carl froch has an overrated chin IMO, he was down badly against taylor, on wobbly feet in the final round against abraham, was out on his feet against andre dirrell and was hurt a few times by kessler. Marcos Maidana another one who has an overrated chin as well, i'm not saying they both have ''glass'' mandibles but they are not the cast iron chin warriors nuthuggers on esb proclaim them to be.

Vitali, the only evidence of his supposed 'iron chin' was an inside uppercit Lewis landed on him.

    ^^^^

Froch and Vitali were the first two to come to mind. Froch has a good chin, but people get carried away at times.

With Vitali, he also has an effective defense and judges range well, which enables him to usually avoid the full impact of shots. He did take some big shots from Lewis, including that uppercut, which is a big punch of Lewis, but fighters tend to take uppercuts better than other shots like left hooks. I'm not sure if it's the muscles in the neck or what, but take a look at the one shot KOs in history: uppercuts are FAR more rare than left hooks and straight rights. Mavrovic took way more hard shots from Lewis and stayed on his feet.

Maybe he does have an iron chin, but his defense and poor opposition make him somewhat difficult to rank.

Froch, not Vitali. Froch a million times over. Good chin but not great. Bute will murder him.

Vitali has a good chin, but a big reason he's never been down is because his defense gets underrated as he doesn't often get hit with big shots.

The Lewis fight gets overblown. Yeah, he took a monster uppercut. How often does Lewis (who had a vicious uppercut) actually stop guys with uppercuts? Off the top of my head, Grant (the fourth KD of the fight and Lewis held him) and Fortune (whom he hit 4 straight times).

I was thinking Vitali b4 in the past. He has a very good chin, but how many times has it been tested? Chisora gave him some good shots. Lewis did as well. Sanders and even Arreola got him with a few good shots.

Mercer ate plenty of uppercuts from Lewis

Anyone who says Maidana has an iron chin is deluded and hasn't watched much of him. Froch and Maidana just take too many punches which gives the impression that they are iron-chinned. Although I do think Froch has a great chin.

Maidana hasn't got a 'steel can't get knocked down' chin...

let a great puncher hit him, he may go down to one knee (ortiz)

But he will back at it straight away... so an amazing recovery rate therefore getting hit hard on the chin won't affect him badly... concluding that it is unlikely he will ever get KO'ed from a punch to the chin

Maidana has a steel face, never swells or cuts.

    Maidana's Chin is SOLID
His body isn't that tough however

Moving back to the original title of the post - His chin is not overrated.

Thread Stealer, Arcane you can not be serious about Vitali. His chin is cast iron and the sound of the inside uppercut was heard 1000km away. People that were at the fight were amazed that he didn't go down. And he was never hurt in a fight afterwards. I agree for Froch though. IMAO Floyd chin is getting overrated around here. I mean he was the last fighter to get hurt by Mosley

Floyd. Judah knocked him down with a little tap. Ancient Mosley hurt him bad. He just doesn't get hit often like vitali

Holyfield. It was by no means a liability but he never had an iron chin.

The thing with floyds chin is we don't know how good it is because it never gets tested. He got hurt by mosley who is a monstrous puncher and didn't go down.

Best chin in boxing is the one that gets hit the least.

Recent entry into "iron chinned warriors" is Dereck Chisora because he went 12 rounds with Vitali...:patsch
