Hey which fighter(s) do you feel had a rough road career wise (not they life story or rough up-bringing) to get to the mountain top? one name that stands out to me is Winky Wright here are some reasons off the top of my head: This guy had no big time promoter backing him and it was no such thing as a Golden Boy Promotions. I even heard in some documentary they spread rumors that he had asthma when he did not, just to find a reason for not to promote him. Did not particularly have a fan pleasing style, and his style was very difficult to look good against. which made his journey even harder, because no star fighter would be too intrigued to get into the ring with you. Before landing that big career defining fight (against Mosley, Trinidad and Taylor) he was pretty much forced to fight in places such as France, Germany, U.K, South Africa (again one of the downfalls of not having a say Bob Arum). which says alot considering many American fighters get heat for not fighting outside the U.S When he somewhat landed his first big fight against Vargas he lost a MD in which some feel he should have won. Prior to this loss he had two setback losses. That must have been extremely difficult to get a high profile fight with 3 losses against a style no fighter seems to want to go against.
His loss to Harry Simon was questionable too. People just do not like Winky, I don't know what it is. Maybe it's his style, should have gotten the nod against Taylor too.

Yea dude is also probably the most underrated and/or unappreciated fighter since the 1990s and has legit Hof wins over Trinidad and Mosley (x2) very defensive sound smart boxer as well. You're right it probably was his style though even thought myself appreciates the sweet science.
juan manuel marquez. very surprised no one mentioned him. this was a guy who a few years ago went to fight indonesia for about 30,000. was ducked by so many other fighters when he was fighting at featherweight. just about the last few years he's started making the kind of money that matches his skill level.
Eric Lucas here in Canada! Nobody believed in him at first but he never gave up his dream and worked harder than the others to fulfill it against all odds.
