Since there's been a lot of threads on fighters with quick hands but slow feet - I decided to do one on fighters with quick feet but slow hands. Can you name any? One example is 'Big' George Foreman. Foreman (particularly in his prime) was always good at cutting off the ring against fighters on the retreat, closing the gap - which requires footspeed. He had good bounce & speed in his legs, which enabled him to always be close to his opponent.

Someone will be in soon to tell you that George Foreman actually had fast hands.

Only when he’s counting all the money he’s made since his comeback.

I can already see the pitchforks in the horizon. There’s no time. You must run!

I think Carlos Monzon is a great one, who had a big difference between these abilities. He had decent hand speed in his division, but great, effectice footwork and balance. Maybe he wasn`t always quick on feet, but at least if he had to.

He could jump backwards but otherwise his hands and feet were snail-speed

His footwork wasn`t snail-speed. He had great reflexes and footwork and was able to control distances. Though he wasn`t a permanent runner (Foreman neither).

    Liston
    GGG
    Barkley
Chavez (had average hand speed. Feet were definitely quicker)
    Cotto (same as Chavez)
