With the exception of Johnson being 5th, although I don't think he'll ever fight Dawson again, I think the creator of this thread did a very good job.

Dawson himself is not a big light heavyweight, and Pavlik may just as likely come in at 170.

If Pavlik retains his punching power at this weight and his punch output, there is a strong possiblity that his pressure will wear Dawson down and allow Pavlik to knock him out in the later rounds.

As the author stated though, Dawson MAY have the ability to outbox Pavlik, but, so far I see Dawson as unproven and vulnerable. I think Pavlik is the better fighter, and he might fight hard enough to win against Dawson's superior boxing skills.

Honestly, it's not quite clear what the worst possible matchup for Pavlik is. It may very well be a stationary slugger that preys off of foward marching pressure fighters.

I won't be able to give a prediction until I see how Pavlik handles Hopkins and see if Dawson has improved at all from his questionable win against Johnson.

Don't forget though, Dawson sometimes slugs when he should be boxing.

Pavlik? Why not Margarito or Abraham? :patsch Kelly has never fought at 175, EVER.

IMO (and according to a lot of experts), Glen Johnson has already beat Dawson. I don't care if it was close or 2 points or just 1, a lot of experts' scorecard shows Dawson is not unbeaten anymore no matter what the so called official cards say...

So other than Johnson, who has already beat Chad on my card in a close fight, I think Kessler beats him via TKO due to Chad's chin and stamina issues, Calzaghe beats him due to Joe's speed and techical advantage (Joe's still faster) and horrible advantage in stamina, vs. Pavlik is a silly queastion as long as he steps into the ring at LHW.

Dawson is pretty good and getting better and better. I like the guy. I say it's 50-50 vs. Hopkins, I'd like to, but it's hard to pick the old man vs. a speedy technical fighter anymore...

So Diaconu is too slow but Abraham is not? When was the last time you watched Diaconu, Astola? In my view, the whole point about the Diaconu v. Dawson fight is that Diaconu wouldn't have to chase him. Axe explains the point well. Diaconu is an aggressive puncher who creates and exploits opportunities, so he'd have a decent chance against Dawson. (IMO only about 20% if Dawson sticks to the gameplan, which he usually doesn't...but still):good

I cannot see Abraham having a decent chance against Dawson at all, but that is just me.

I think Abraham has a terrible style against Dawson and would be severly outboxed.

Abraham only has a puncher's chance against a stick and move boxer of Dawson's caliber.

    "Started out" is relative.

Bute "started out" 3 months shy of his 24th birthday.

Dawson "started out" 1 month after his 19th birthday.

Who do you expect to have been bigger?

I like to look at the fighter's stable weight class after he turns 25 years old as a good indicator of their natural weight (below 147 that age will drop).

    Exactly.

Aggression is key against a boxer like Dawson.

Oh, youre right. But I do believe that Abrahams Turtle Shell combined with explosive power could earn him a KO. But I would expect a Dawson UD, but not be surprised by a Abraham KO victory.

Last time I saw Diaconu he was terrible - the worst perfomance Ive seen from somebody I expected alot from.

Abraham is ****in strong, has an iron chin and real pop in his fists. He is limited as a pure boxer, yes. But he is damn effective when he finds the opportunity.

Yeah, he was very bad last time around, but mainly due to crap stamina, not lack of speed throwing combos, etc. I think Abraham wouldn't have the movement or guile to corner Dawson. I think Dawson could just outbox him from the outside 99 times out of 100. Abraham is probably better than Diaconu, but that doesn't mean he has a better chance against Dawson. Diaconu really is bigger, for a start. He couldn't make 160 if his life depended on it. He barely makes 175!

As I remeber it, Diaconu was very slow, limited in his boxing, no gameplan and yes, horrible stamina. He has power but that was it.

Abraham looks very bad against a slick in/out boxer as Ayala. Dawson isnt as fast on his feet as Ayala and he wouldnt be running backwards the entire fight as well.

It may happen, I'm not saying it's impossible for anyone to break him down...this is boxing afterall. :good

What you are IMO not paying too much attention to are the factors required to break Dawson down. These are limited to 1) a big punch from a big puncher (see Adamek's right hand), or 2) steady punishment from a high workrate fighter (see Glen Johnson's workrate).

Kessler does not have the punch nor the workrate to accomplish what you believe he is capable of.

Right, but the proof you submitted was pretty questionable.

And that a good point. But still. I saw some serious flaws in Diaconu the last time he fought.

Abraham, Kessler, Pavlik, Bute and naturrally Calzaghe would all have a good shot against Dawson.

    Also Hopkins btw.
