Fighters with the Best Chance of Beating Chad Dawson

He wasn't slow,he was using his speed to get good timing and accuracy and counter punching well at times.If you mean limited in boxing by not using his jab,then yes,but he had good upper body movement,using his legs pretty good.Proved as good chin.Except the stamina he didn't look all that good,plus Henry fought a hell of a fight and Diaconu was sick,overtrained,big layoff etc but those are excusesAbraham is a lot smaller than Dawson also

 

He bulked up a lot in the past year,he might get to be bigger and can say goodbye to ever fighting below 175

 

My opinion on who has the best chances at beating Dawson..

01. Antonio Tarver
02. Glenn Johnson
03. Adrian Diaconu
04. Joe Calzaghe
05. Zsolt Erdei

 

calzaghe would ud dawson 10 out of 10 times. with out a doubt in my mind.
i would even edge to pavlik on beating him.

Not too long ago, Dawson was a super middleweight, and if im not mistaken, he started at middleweight.... I think Bute could give Dawson a tough fight.... A lot of these guys dont need one punch power to affect Dawson.. Remember, Chad has been dropped a couple times... against Harding and Adamek... Erdei could also be a problem for Chad...

 

I don't Pavlik could beat Dawson right now at this point in time.. Give him another year or two or maybe a couple more fights at 168 and higher, then maybe.. I really don't give Diaconu or Calzaghe that good of a chance to be honest.. More likely 65-35.. I think Tarver has the best chance out of anybody right now to beat him.. Though he's older than the young Dawson, he still isn't shot.. He still has the tools and skills and he did look pretty impressive against Woods.. If Dawson doesn't bring his A-game, he could lose widely or get KO'd.. This is like a 51-49 fight for me lol..

 

Also, I would say Hopkins has a decent chance of beating Dawson because he can take whatever Dawson has to give for 3-4 rounds, by which time Dawson starts coming in more, and then, he has the finishing skills to do the business by half time, just like Johnson was about to do. Hopkins shouldn't be discounted here, I think.

Also, I think Diaconu has a higher chance of beating Dawson than Tarver, because he punches harder and is more aggressive.

 

Pavlik wouldn't touch him at 175
Calzaghe would beat him,no way Dawson would be favorite
Tarver he is gonna beat
He would be favorite vs Diaconu but you never know with his chin
How would he be a significant favorite vs Johnson when he almost lost to him in april?
He would probably beat Erdei in a somewhat tough contest,Erdei hasn't fought somebody good in a while so he might not adjust

 

Not to mention the fact that Tarver is relatively flat footed and old, and honestly, Dawson SHOULD put on a boxing exhibition.

Unfortunately for Dawson, as many posters here have cited, is that Dawson sometimes gets lured into a fight and doesn't stick to the gameplan.

 

capfunds, this is what a straight talking Yorkshireman said recently:

"Dawson will beat Tarver easily. Whoever fought Tarver after me, would beat him. He wasn't good against me. I was truly awful that night."

...Tarver isn't active enough and he doesn't put enough power behind those combos to beat Dawson, I think. Lucky punch, maybe...but anyone could beat Dawson with a lucky punch.

Honestly, I feel you're one of the best posters on this site, but because you don't fall in with the majority of posters with some of your views, you're ostracized in a way where you don't get the credit that you deserve.

It doesn't matter though. I would imagine that most of the posters that believe them to be the most knowledgable have never put on a pair of gloves or they're the type that don't realize that their Floyd Mayweather or Roy Jones impression that they do on the bag is embarrassing and likely will lead to a beating once they get into the ring.

But staying on topic, I agree with Woods, who I believe that you're refering to, that the much younger and fresher Dawson will outbox him to a relatively wide decision, especially after the lesson he was taught after engaging to much with Johnson.
