I'm presuming that by "footwork" you mean balance and positioning for punching and recovering with balance/position to throw combos in good form. Arthur Abraham has to be at the top of the list, flat footed all the time. David Haye, off balance/out of position. David Tua, out of position quite a bit I think a good rule of thumb would be, one punch sluggers and pot shotters usually land with their feet out of position. These same guys are likely to be knocked down more often because they are off balance more. You see guys like Pacquaio, Marquez, Tyson, Frazier are able to put together powerful combinations because the power comes from the legs and channeling momentum...which you can't do if you are off balance.
I agree 100% with the last paragraph, but the one above it I don't. How can pot shotter be out of place when their the ones in the pocket waiting for a opening? FLoyd is a pot shotter.
Pavlik needs to learn to back out at an angle instead of jumping straight back. Saw Froch mentioned above. If the Abraham fight tells us anything, Carl's footwork is getting better. Watch his feet when he jabs in that fight compared to older fights.
Right on the head with that one. He should have learned that a long time ago. Martinez was tearing his ass up cuz of that one mistake.
Pretty much yeah :thumbsup Agree about Haye. AA balance is shocking........ This content is protected I Noticed how Abraham's back heel is lined up with the heel of his front foot, in a parallel line? his back foot should be at least 2 inches out(to the right) so he is on balance anchoring his weight down imo. Look at how Abraham is almost pointing his front toe to, when it should be turned in slightly(to the right). Look at Abraham's torso, notice how he's shoulders are squared up? imagine all those factors combined, him having his back foot underneath him, pointing his toe upward as appose to turned in slightly, and fighting with his shoulders square which is torquing his body into a very awkward position. I think Victor Ortiz has some of the best balance in Boxing right now, him and Bradley, maybe not the best footwork, but the best balance imo. Although I did notice something with Ortiz during the Peterson fight, he kept attacking Peterson on the line, which is obviously dangerous.
It sounds to me like your making alot out of nothing really. You can't just look at a picture and see what their doing wrong. There is a textbook for boxing you're right, but theres also styles in boxing that don't fit the textbook. Sergio Martinez, Pacman, RJJ, etc. Theres alot of fighters that do **** their not suppose to do but it works for them.
I dont make my assertion just from that picture, Its just something I noticed during his fights. I think its pretty significant though, cause its one of the reasons he flails with punches IMO, why he cant attack the killzone with his jab and set something up, and so has to resort to jumping across the killzone trying to land a big punch. Abraham struggled to get his feet into position against Froch IMO, that's one of the reasons I believe he looked amateurish when trying to close the gap and put punches together. Roy Jones had excellent footwork, good balance despite his unorthodox style imo.
Kelly kept Zuniga and McKart turning all night long, but over the last few years he regressed. Martinez was the first guy who made him really pay for the weird backward jump-step. Sergio's feet were so fast that KP did not have tim to reset. Hopefully he understands that and will bet back to doind the things he used to do.
Khan is terrible, he moves like a parasympathetic horse-rider being employed be a bunch of dogs rapping to Roy Jones psychopathic music played on a guitar from the late 20' bought by a hated in the ghetto village Uncle Tom who lives near Minnesota. Pretty much what I think.
