The title might be a little misleading considering that many fighters throughout the years have wound up tragic, but I’m thinking more so about fighters who were on top but didn’t last and quickly deteriorated. Another poster started a thread about Hopkins and Taylor and that got me thinking about Taylor; how he was supposed to be the chosen one to replace Hopkins. He fought Hopkins well and received two decisions. They were both close and somewhat controversial but not blatant robberies. From there on out his slide began with lackluster performances against former junior middleweights until he was ktfo by Pavlik. Between Pavlik, Abraham and Froch what was supposed to a great career became a highlight compilation of vicious knockout losses. In the last few years Taylor has been arrested for shooting his cousin, waving a gun around in public, cracking some dude in rehab and some other stuff. Very erratic and it seems obvious that he has some brain damage. JT always came across as a likable, easygoing go with loads of talent. To his fall happen so quickly is sad - as of this writing he’s not even 40years old!
Valero, Pavlik, Margarito, that guy that cheated and the opther guy died I dont remember his name right now.. Those come to mind.. Ohh forgot Gatti
Actually, it would be easier to rename the thread into "Fighters with happy endings" because an overwhelming majority of professional boxers end badly, I think...
Jerry Quarry.good fighter in hi talent era.lost his money made loads of comebacks taking more and more stick.Ended up in a terrible state . Current fighters should remember what happened to Quarry ! a tragic storey.
There was something wrong in his family. His two boxing brothers ended with dementia and parkinson too.
Diego Corrales. A fast burning flame. RIP Chico Paul Williams handed his situation brilliantly, doing all he can to help others. A true inspiration
I'm sure Taylor helped raise his brothers and sisters with his mother. Also lost his pro debut a think, in against someone he should not have been in with for your first pro fight. Real shame how things ended up for him.
