I’ll start, Ricky Hatton, he didn’t have a great defence and could be timed, and most fighters with good footwork also have a good defence which creates a false link between how fans rate their footwork, but Hatton, while he did get hit, he was great at using his feet and feinting to set up attacks by edging his way into range subtly, he’d do it with constant light feints and subtle steps to throw off their judgment of range, he also always took his feet with him when throwing, could step around to create angles etc.

Dubois. Really. Even in his early fights there was an efficiency about his feet placement, he was rarely in the wrong place. Don't get me wrong, the kid doesn't dance but his positioning was always mature and rarely compromised.

    Joe Louis.

He had it when he wanted it.

Roberto Duran, considering he wasn't a type of slickster that would win by moving around and being flashy,he relied on positioning and pivoting whenever he's forced to box.

He always did, Louis’s footwork is text book and all the dingbats saying he had “slow feet” are really showing what they don’t know.

I don’t know who is underrated but some fighters with good footwork that spring to mind are… Barney Ross, Orlando Canizales and the great Napoles.

Jack Johnson - another who could shift his feet when it was called for.

I appreciate the type of footwork you’re describing re Dubois and who doesn’t love said efficiency and it’s obvious advantages?

I think some pundits have misinterpreted some fighters who pointlessly bounce around like the Everyready Bunny as being reflective of more modern and superior footwork.

I’ve seen plenty of fights where the non- superfluous and more practical footwork of one fighter tracks down the constant but not always practically effective mobility of his opponent.

Perhaps an excellent example of same was how Kostya Tszyu tracked down the more flashy Zab Judah - and, just imo, KT’s footwork and style in general wasn’t completely dissimilar to that of Joe Louis.

If they had only filmed Richard from the waist up during his fights - you’d swear he was gliding around on a hoverboard.

I actually think that Richard “Marty” “Mc”Dunn might’ve come back from the future given his highly evolved footwork.

He had Ali befuddled before Muhammad landed a few lucky shots. Lucky escape for the Greatest.

They say that-and this might be apocryphal-but they say that Jack Johnson could ejerkulate standing up, be in bed before the room gets dark.
