Seeing people claim that Martinez/Ward are ducking GGG made me think of this thread. GGG - what's he done for people to think he'd beat Sergio? His next fight is against Ishida, which he will likely win by brutal KO. Ensuing even greater hype. Matthyse - First off I do actually rate Matthyse. I think he's an exciting fighter and a main reason why the 140lb is so packed. His fight v Judah wasn't a robbery. It was close and could have went either way. Yes, the Alexander fight was a robbery, but why couldn't he finish off either? People claim he has improved as a fighter, but I just think his level of opposition has went down. Olusegun was a good win, but his style was perfect for Matthyse. I've seen people claiming that if the 140lb tournament happens then Matthyse will easily KO all opposition. Not saying that won't happen - but right now I'd favour Peterson by decision over him. Any more?
Garcia - i know he's a champ. but i really think he's getting beat by peterson and matthyse if they fight. Even Judah beats him imo. Guerrero as a welterweight - looks slow and ploddy.
GGG is doing something right, in gyms or in fights. Because he's on HBO, but still, NOONE wants to fight him. There was a good interview with Eddie Hearn, where he acknowledged how he turned him down with his middleweight, and he knows for a fact everyone else has turned him down,
I might take a bit of flack for this, but I think Rigondeaux is getting more hype than he deserves. It's not his fault he got such a late start in his pro career due to Cuban politics, but it's not our fault either...
I know why the furore over GGG gets people riled, but he had to kick doors in to get some recognition, and a white European making a noise in America will always garner hype. Rigo is only hyped by a hardcore group of fans(I might be guilty) but he's still pretty small potatoes. Lack of a fan base will only add to that.
Ward IMO, people is trying to say hes p4p 1 or 2, and I dont feel he belongs in the top three, so what he cleaned up a division of B class at best fighters, in his hometown, with his refs judges and with a drug cheat Conte in his corner. For goodness sake you have a near 50 BHOP looking like the second best fighter at 168-175, is Wards accomplishments really that great. Not to mention that he always has to have some type of advantage over those opponents he did beat
Adrien Broner. Don't get me wrong it's not hate, an I don't mind his personality I can tell he's laidback an just wants to create an image. An he's a damn good figghter. Just things like "Mayweathers heir apparent" an "The next p4p star" make me feel like hes being hyped too much an Imo he will have a great career but people are pushing it a little far
GGG is the biggest bum inside boxing, they'll need 10 plummers to do him when Gamboas finished with him.
