Fighters with very similar styles and Fights that are similar

My thoughts exactly.

 

I've tended to draw comparisons between Chavez-Taylor 1 and Trinidad-Vargas, more for the backgrounds, outcome, and aftermath of the bouts than necessarily the styles of the combatants. You can make some similarities in the styles if you want, but I think it takes a stretch.

Trinidad and Chavez= long-reigning champs, undefeated, very experienced in title fights, heavy-handed.

Vargas and Taylor= young undefeated champs from the US with decorated amateur careers.

Both fights were classics, and both resulted in the more experienced champs winning in the 12th.

Both Vargas and Taylor were still quality fighters and had some success afterwards (Taylor more so), but never fully reached the level they were at before, or reached the expectations that some people had for them.

 

I always thought Peterson-Khan and Haugen-Camacho I were similar.

Highly touted star boxer with a loud mouth (Camacho and Khan) against the gritty tough guy. (Haugen and Peterson)

Early rounds went exactly as scripted with the "opponent" going down. Tough guy switched styles to a pressured body attack and begun to wear down the boxer. Boxer adjusted and managed to stay at a distance. Pressure fighter came on and stayed glued to the boxer's chest. Fight hanging in the balance during the twelfth round and a point is controversially taken away from the star. Fighter that was supposed to lose wins a split decision that nobody expected he could get.
