Fighters you are astounded are considered ATGs?

That is strange.

I definitely used to receive them.

I just wondered who it was.

 

It's only a suspicion at the moment. But let's just say that the suspect is someone that you (and I) have had extensive exchanges with on the topic of Golovkin, before now.
A few boxes have been ticked, over just a couple of threads, but this could just be coincidence (or, God forbid, a copycat acolyte).

Golovkin.

 

Tszyu was as high as number 2 P4P and was in the top 5 P4P for years.

He's criminally underrated. His resume is outstanding if you actually go through it properly. He unified a division that had been fragmented for 30 years and is unfairly criticised for the loss to Vince Phillips. Yet those same critics give Mike Tyson a pass for Buster Douglas...upsets happen in boxing but Kostya Tszyu was an absolute beast and deserving of his ATG status.

I'm going to push back on Ward slightly.

I think those wins over Froch and Kessler look pretty good, all things considered.

Plus, even if you don't think he deserved the first Kovalev fight and think there would have been no path to victory (I scored it 114-113 Sergei, fwiw and could see why someone would give seven to AW), he did well to come back from a horrible start to make the fight competitive and close on just about every card. And, even if you hated his style and the fact that he fouled a lot, he was still able to reverse the perceived result of the first fight and stop a guy who was considered the terror of the division at the time.

At worst, I would consider him to be "very, very good" to "excellent". Clear top 3 guy at 168lbs, with a nice result at 175lbs to cap a career that I think warrants HOF status.

He may not be ATG material, but I can think of worse fighters to earn the label.

 

Anyway, of fighters not mentioned, I'd probably go with Nino Benvenuti. Never entirely "got it" with him.
