Aye, the fight being at 147 favoured Hatton as much as it did Floyd, who was more negative back then at the weight.

A 2005 peak vs peak matchup at 140 would have been a similar type fight, Hatton would probably have a bit more joy and get hit less early, but still be broken down and probably stopped.

It does my head in when people say ''Hatton couldn't fight at 147'', he absolutely could. He'd just never beat Mayweather, Mosley, Cotto etc - and wouldn't have at 140 either.

At that time you kinda had a segregation:

Elite - Floyd
A Class - Mosley, Cotto, Margarito, P-Will...
B Class - Hatton (the best of the B's)
C - the rest

I've said it before but I remember an interview with Hatton where he was really up for a Cotto fight, like he really felt he had his number or that he'd seen something he could exploit. There was a quote along the lines of "I'll break his heart" or something. I'd've liked to see it.

Yeah, he probably would have saying that. He'd have broken Cotto down with body shots and put him out of his misery in the middle/late rounds.... he wasn't mature enough or strong enough at the weight to deal with Hatton at his best.

I'd have liked to have seen Hatton against Margarito, just something inside me tells me he'd have pulled it off. He had better legs than Cotto, which would be key. Of course he'd just laugh at Ricky's punches mind.

Mosley would have executed him, probably inside the first three minutes. Not a good matchup at all for Wicky I'm afraid.

 

Nah, Ricky would be absolutely ill-equipped to beat Toni', who would walk through and execute him.

Ricky certainly had faster feet than Miguel, but he was no more elusive. Think about the mid-to-late rounds to Collazo. Give Ricky a full welterweight training camp like he did against Floyd and he still gets massacred!
