In fights which involve an undefeated fighter, I have recently found that I've sometimes been drawn to rooting for his opponent, all else being equal. I think a lot of that is influenced by my being annoyed at the fanbase worshipping the 'O'.

Personally Duran fans don’t irritate me. I do think they are annoying to SRL fans, but as someone who is not a fan of either, SRL fans have the smugness hands down

Gonna flip it to fanbase instead of fighters.
Mayweather . Disgusting all the BS he gets away with. Dictating Maidonas gloves was the last straw for me.
    Wilder
    Marciano
    Lewis
Tyson ( the completely delusional ones )
Canelo ( sorry but no1 hes a cheat and being associated with all of Oscars BS primarily the trying to wait for G to get old but calling it Marinating when everyone was ready for this fight yrs ago. Lastly calling himself a Jr MW when his walking around weight has been heavier than most MW's for many yrs. BS on so many levels with this guy. His laundry list is as long as Floyds.

How are Leonard’s smug? Duran’s get upset ifyou don’t worship him fully enough or if you ever question any of his excuses for his underwhelming performances. Recognizing him as an ATG isn’t even enough for those guys.

Does Leonard even have many big fans anymore? I feel like fans of guys like Hagler or Duran brand people Leonard fans when they don’t worship their favorite fighters obediently enough.

For me it is Marciano fans.
Certainly not all of them by any means, just the few on here who cannot admit that somebody could have beaten him.
To make it even more hypocritical one of them is on record accusing people of making Ali out to be Superman......i won't drop names but most should be able to work it out.
These same few then make every effort to downplay Liston, Foreman & Tyson as those 3 are obviously seen as the greatest threats.
They also side with any Marciano opponent in most fantasy matches in an effort to increase Rockys stock.

Would they take the same stance if Marciano came from a different cultural & religious background?

I meant the mania surrounding him when he beat Taylor. He was being called “The Saviour of Boxing “. (Which is kind of offensive when you think on it)

Well personally I am not a Marciano fan nor a detractor...but I find his detractors more vocal, annoying and unreasonable than the few vocal supporters he has.

As someone who is not a fan of the fab 4/5, the only ones who seem to force thier opinions with a huge slant is SRL. Funny back in 2006-2012 Duran/Tyson/RJJ fans were brutally horrible on this forum to the point that I didn’t even want to discuss them. It seems to have shifted the other way the past 5 years IMO

I dislike AJ and Canelo fans, they've been especially annoying recently. AJ fans act like wilder is ducking AJ for the April fight even though
    1. Wilder and Fury want a direct rematch, and
    2. Wilder already offered AJ a fight, AJ ducked, and after Wilder moved on, AJ fans try to act like Wilder is the one ducking.

I find Canelo fans annoying because I deal with them a lot in person. Living in a Hispanic place, I naturally have Hispanic friends, but they act as if Canelo is the best fighter of this generation and an ATG, when that's not the case. He's good, but my friends overrate him all the time.

Without a doubt, Tyson and Marciano, even though I'm a fan of both. (However I give a lot more latitude to the latter because Marciano gets a lot of undeserved slagging that I would say is at least equal to the excessive adulation.)

I have a bit of a bone to pick with people who think Taylor was robbed against Chavez, but many of them are people who are quite reasonable on all other occasions.

I was a huge Taylor guy back in the day (still am to a degree), and was outraged at the time. I was rooting for Taylor hand had him up 9 going into the final round (but think 3 of those rounds were swing ones that would make it closer if scored to Chavez!). I hated the King strangle hold (similar to Canelo/DLH haters of today), and always excpected a dirty outcome (our biases can cloud our judgement sometimes). I was cheering my but off and was prepared to win a nice chunk of change from my bets....and then out of nowhere it’s over Chavez wins and I lose to much money on a day I excpected the opposite just seconds ago. I was outraged!

Having watched it several times over the years, I don’t see Meldrick respond like he and Duva say. I hate the stoppage and the timing, but having a more rational take years later I feel it was correct. I still don’t like Steele or King...but feel the decision is fair even if it is painful
