Andre Ward Clearly a talented fighter who chose to wrestle, headbutt, low blow & elbow his way to winning fights for some strange reason!
Hatton was very game and entertaining to watch. Against top tier competition, his face-first defensive style did not work very well. Also, in the UK, he benefited from some pretty liberal takes on the rules of boxing. Take away some of his ability to maul and brawl and he was just not as effective.
That definitely made it worse but I already had the same lackadaisical attitude toward him before even knowing about that
Carl Frampton for me. Nothing against him personally and he has been in a few entertaining fights I just don't see the appeal.
I still say hatton was never a dirty fighter. People have watched too many floyd mayweather fights...not all boxers have the same style. For most of his uk fights....he never really needed to fight dirty. With having small dimensions...he had no other real option than to get inside. He got inside and worked. Its not down to the ref to stop that from happening....its down to the opponent. Its a bit of a myth that he fought dirty in his uk fights. The tyszu fights the one that gets mentioned. Think when he punched tyszu low but tbf...tyzsu hit him something like 3 times low leading up to it. He grabbed/held but its all part of the game that the opponent can stop from happening. What happened was hatton pretty much just excerted his style on them. Get up in close....and worked away. As floyd and pacman showed...you could counteract it. Its just that most of the opponents we,rent good enough to do it. He did start holding etc too much in the end when the skill level went up tbf. But coming through he was quality. That come forward entertaining style comes at a cost in the end tho. Just surprised a lot of guys have him on their list....but tbf a lot of these guys will only really have seen him against tyszu, mayweather, pacman and the american journey. But there was a genuine reason he had such a massive following. At one point he was unbelievably good to watch. Much better than the latter years. A lot of that was down to the skill level going up....agreed. but just trying to give some explanation on why he was followed so well which a lot of people wont seem to get with only seeing his latter fights.
All it takes is one dirty fight and people will never forget it. Ward did Kessler dirty with headbutts, and people still yammer on as if he did it every fights, which simply is not the case.
So far I'm not sold that Terrence Crawford is p4p #1. His style and personality are a bit boring and I just don't see those extra dimensions or wrinkles to his game. I'm also not sold on his competition. I actually think Spence Jr. or any of the other top welters have a good chance at beating him.
4 out of 10 on boxings P4P list are former USSR fighters and only two brothers. Hahahha . Btw GGG beat Clen twice, loma beat salido and Kova beat ward once.
True that. Getting to the stage...if its not a certain style...its dirty fighting. Theres different styles in boxing...what i ve seen of ward...he more manouvered himself into positions to get his shots off. Its actually smart boxing. With hatton he went forward fighting so much it was inevitable...there would be mauling or holding at some point. Almost impossible not to.
So it should be obvious that there are multiple rating systems that have different p4p#1. I have Loma p4p #1, but that's also by default, not because he has taken on some great challenges. It's not his fault though because he is basically in no man's land. His skill set and talent impressive against no hopers, but waiting for him to face someone worthy. I'm hoping the fight with Lopez is good, but my expectations are low.
Hey moderators, why don’t you ban this ******* for “inflammatory nationalistic content”?! What he is saying here is much worse than anything I said, bordering on racist towards east europeans
