That guy's actually in prison now for murdering a guy who let him stay at his place, then trying to cover the crime scene with arson.
I was a big Duran fan number one, Leonard was the Golden Boy of Boxing number two. I also didn't like how Leonard was able to sort of retire and unretire and carefully pick and choose his opponents while picking up multiple belts along the way. His fight against Donny Lalonde was a perfect example, and he won a lightheavyweight belt which was ridiculous. I must say that watching fights from the 80's on youtube nowadays though, I do enjoy his commetary though.
If you remember Leonard made Lalonde drop weight to the Super middle weight level but still put his light heavyweight title on the line.
It’s mostly just a small number of Duran (and Hagler) fanatics. They’re still bitter 30-40 years later that Leonard entered the professional ranks as a pretty-boy golden-child media darling and ended up beating their favorite fighters. Some hate that he used his clout and earning power to fight his career on his terms, and they overplay this to excuse their heroes’ embarrassing losses. And a certain type of Duran fan will never accept Leonard for making the ferocious warrior they idolized look so helpless and pathetic in New Orleans.
