Fighters you used to hate for stupid reasons but knew they were the real deal?

Always hated Zab - came across as right little hood rat. That video of him fighting over something in the street didn't help but he seemed a good guy later in his career helping out at shelters etc.

I hated Wlad and Vitali for holding the belts hostage and Vitali fighting fairly poor opposition.

Margacheato for obvious reasons. Tho he played the bad guy well.

Kirkland always made me laugh try to be full on gangster but got folder like a wet quilt from a jab from a non puncher. Then later got departed by his senses by Canelo.

Speaking of Canelo - him having the deck all in his favour his annoying. It it's not drugs, it's dodgy cards etc. Top class fighter but he has everything going for him as well as a backup.

Maybe Mayweather Jr.

Mostly due to his attitudes and personalities off the ring. Can't deny that he is a real boxing talent and one of all-of-time greats. He won against the boxer I used to support (De La Hoya).

 

Mayweather because of Flomos. Marquez because of Mexicans. Canelo because the judges are his greatest fans.
Ali because of the entire boxing community.

 

Yeah, because FANS made you hate him. It's so dumb to hate a boxer because of fans... you can't control that part of you?

 

Anyone I hated, still recognized their skills and ability. Not hard to do if you can simply be fair and open minded (though many here seem to test that theory)

Zab frustrated me to no end. Still always had a soft spot for him

 

Pimp C is it him or his fanboys? I know he developed an inflated sense of himself and hubris because of his fanboys. Remember when the fools reckoned peak for peak he was better than any middleweight in history and that he would have beaten Marvelous Marvin. When the truth is if he and Marvin fought Marvin would lock him up in Siberia in the ring.

 

Many people on this thread said the fans of a fighter is the reason why they didn't like a fighter yet you choose to address me. Get a grip man.

 

Most of them are stupid....you at least show some boxing brains at times. I find it odd you would not want to better yourself and stop hating boxers because of what fans claim. Boxers do not control fans....

 

It bothered me that they called the 2nd fight with Hearns a draw. It was political, nobody wanted to give Ray the L.

Suppose closest for me is usyk....I wasn't a fan of his style, he seemed abit weird..but I respected the fact he was this ultimate road warrior...some of his fans bugged me.... Then he emptied bellew and I built a church in his honour lol
