:deal MMA has only been a popular sport for what 5-10 years I'm sure you could pick up alot of the history pretty quickly.
Most journalists don't have a deep knowledge of the sport. You just need to show a passion and basic awareness.
atsch It goes back to the inception of judo at the latest!!! In terms of just the sport as a spectacle it goes back 30+ years!
I would put myself in for it. I'm young, rather dashing and actually have writing experience. Living in Ireland and the fact I'm starting college next week restrict that idea though.
I only have the title and a general idea of who/what it would encompass Awkward Beasts: The Boxers of Thailand Problem is, the market for the subject matter is probably minute, and it would probably be a waste of my time. Researching would be very difficult, but knowing Thais obviously helps if/when I can get my hands on newspaper archives. Some amazing stories and characters of course, I think it lends itself well to a 'Historical Synopsis' and then dedicated chronological chapters focusing on one fighter at a time but picking up the strands in each following chapter as I cover Thais in Western Boxing up to, and I know he will be the last already, Pongsaklek Wonjongkam. As I say, I have my 'brackets', would take a real kick up the ass, dedication and a bit of money behind me, which, assuming no publisher will give a first-time writer with little experience, dealing in a very niche market, an advance :good
I would be annoyed, but the fact that you aren't the first person to be of that opinion........:verysad I try to write clearly because, being an 18 year old from Dublin, society generally doesn't allow me to use any sort of decent vocabulary/pronunciation, I got the **** taken out of me enough for being good at English in school from my own mates.:yep
:good we need to hear about these little Japanese guys more Seriously tho, google Sports Publications and email over a few chapters and a general synopsis to each company, and they pay you to research and write it.
Sod it, drop Graham Houston a line through his website and ask who's best to submit to Boxing Monthly.
Eek!! Dunno whether DFT is takin' the **** or not And Vano, can't be that easy?!? And this would have to be a book, no article could cram in what I'd like to convey :thumbsup
I never take the **** about writing or boxing, Flea. I'm serious like a heart attack. I'd love to do more boxing writing if I had time, but I'll push anyone who can to do it. You're a good writer and you take your research seriously. I'd say ask Graham or Bunce who would be best to get in touch with. Both are massively supportive.
I was looking at doing a similar thing m8. I just googled it and literally every page I went on there was a section called 'submit your idea' or something like that. You obviously won't get paid a lot, but it's something. You obviously have a fixed deadline on when the book has to be finished, and I'd assume you'd have to submit a chapter a month so they could see progress or something. Google it and have a look. Both you and JPab are very good writers, so why not be your own boss (Jesus I sound like a driving instructor)
