Registered two of the best wins of all time in beating Jofre twice. Has an amazing resume, actually. A H2H monster as well, won lineal titles at two separate weights. I hear that he was screwed out of a title in a third division or some such? :huh
The consensus is that he was screwed badly out of the Featherweight strap in his first fight with Johnny Famechon. Not to mention the rematch with Pone Kingpetch. His resume shold legitimately include both of those fights as wins, and yes, a third lineal title at Featherweight. Top 50, but top 25 is pushing it still.
Personally I have him in my top 40-30, but maybe thats because I like him too damn much if anything. I also think he's the greatest Asian Boxer of all-time - exciting energetic style plus wins over Jofre, Kingpetch, Medel and Famechon (The First one)?
Top 40 for me. Top 25 is pushing it a little IMO. Add the notion that Jofre wasn't quite right for those fights and what my eyes saw in those fights (I'm not blown away by Jofre from those fights, felt like he should've fought different fights tactically), and I say Top 40. BUT! (sorry, going a little Mr. Bill there), few if any have spanned fly, bantam, and feather as successfully. Top 25 isn't outlandish.
top 40? same bracket as spinks, hearns, ike williams and sanchez...no way. i would put him in the same bracket as gomez, ortiz, holmes and olivares. top 45 at he very best with 55 at worst
Absolutely. There isn't much between any of the fighters you listed. I think very highly of Ortiz and Olivares in particular. You're calling me on a very minute difference. FYI, Sanchez is my all-time favorite fighter but I'm not greatly offended when the likes of Ortiz or Olivares are rated higher. Tragically, Sal's resume is incomplete. I think Hearns and Harada spanned multiple weight classes with similar success. Harada just doesn't have the brutal stoppage losses on his slate like Tommy. Tommy also had access to more "world" title belts. I'm sure the difference between our rating of Pac is much, much wider.
the difference in the greatness of spinks, hearns and sanchez is not minute compared to gomez, holmes and olivares. the former three should be ranked inside top 45 easily while the last three would find it hard to squeeze in the top 45. You can not rate spinks at par with gomez nor sanchez at par with olivares. Ortiz is a little bit tricky because we would have different opinion on his h2h prowess. Some say a prime mosley, arguello and mayweater would beat him. A case can also me made that he can beat chavez. His wins over elorde, laguna and brown are telling on his overall h2h ability. One of the most underrated in terms of hypothetical match up is ortiz.
Harada's accomplishments comfortably compare with Spinks, even allowing for him being a vastly less dedicated fighter.
well, i have harada higher but in the same bracket as gomez, foster, conn, foreman and frazier. but i rank him lower but in the same bracket as olivares, ortiz and holmes. i have him at 51 with 48 at best.
both are around 4th -6th in all time rankings in their division but you can not put the history of LHW division in the same class as that of BW. plus harada's difficulties against taller guys are evident in his losses to rose and kingpech
