Zarate for me. FH is obviously insane but he's horribly compromised by this match up. He'll lose every second he's not bringing hellish pressure and crowding Zarate is a really really awful thing to be stuck with for 15. I think FH would be ahead on the cards at the time of the stoppage, but I think as soon as the brimstone goes out of his work he'll start getting hit pretty consistently with hurtful hurtful punches. One for the ages.
Damn, SusieQ49 - you are pulling out some outstanding matchups today! Swarming pressure fighter against dynamite puncher with height and reach advantage. I think this is stylistically bad for Harada, even if they are pretty even all-time at Bantamweight, kind of like an equivalent of Thomas Hearns v Henry Armstrong at WW.
Zarate would have to be outhustled to lose which is Haradas bread an butter. Not as forgone a conclusion Zarate win for me but I do favor him slightly.
I suppose I think Zarate wins, but not without difficulty. The first few rounds feature h Harada closing fast and working inside, troubling Zarate initially. He finds that the Mexican, for all his mantis-like build, is also adept at bringing it in-close and Zarate begins establishing an abbreviated punching range around the fourth or fifth. He begins rocking Harada with hooks to the body and uppercuts to the head, and the momentum shifts. After a few more back and forth, the referee rescues a bloodied Harada.
Harada was a humongous bantam who competed at the top level of featherweight. I think Zarate could win, but not down to size.
Harada was not really hurt by body shots that I can remember. You needed to catch him coming in and crack him on the jaw. Zarate was not the counter puncher nor as quick as Medel was. Didn’t have the craft Jofre did either. And from the Rodolfo and Davila fights we can see that feints and a good jab could cause him to reset often before he got his timing down. And Harada had arguably the most active and excellent jab in the divisions history. He also wasn’t ******ed, and knew when to ambush and when to retreat. He honed this knowledge after Medel wrecked him. I can see the arguments for Zarate, but Harada isn’t just going to rush him for 15 rounds. Although pushing Zarate back might be the best way to limit his punching opportunities, as he was a guy who needed leverage to really hurt his man. He wasn’t some fast twitch counter beast who could throw a shot from a few inches and poleaxe someone.
