Harada has to be hell for any defensive wizard. His fast, repeated jabs would off set the rhythm of most, if not all, counterpunchers. And his relentless aggression and fast combinations would be enough to break through a defence. Saying that Wolgast was about angles and would try to keep Harada off balance but I can't see him doing it for prolonged, enough, periods to really gain command. I'd see Harada's jab being a crucial factor in off setting Wolgast and allowing Harada to set a higher than comfortable pace for the fat man.
I'll take Wolgast at his best over most flys and many banties. He fought in one of the toughest eras in the history. He beat uncrowned champion Wee Willie Davies numerous times as well as Pete Sanstol, Lou Salica, Juan Zurita, Speedy Dado, Black Bill (Kid Chocolate's cousin and a hell of a fighter), Corporal Izzy Schwartz, Tony Marino, Jimmy Thomas.... A very deep resume. I'll take him by decision but Harada wouldn't make it easy on him.
Harada's fighting makes any stylist poop his pants IMO. Got a lot of faith in his educated pressure(if he's not being lazy).
From the film available (of a smaller, past prime Wolgast against an excellent boxer-puncher) I think Wolgast looks just as comfortable playing and switching up both the swarming/aggressive roles and jabbing/counter-punching roles as Harada. He may well've been the more unorthodox, problematic fighter.
It's difficult to not see the relentless Harada swarming the often less than prepared Midget Wolgast with punches from all angles. On the other hand, Wolgast was able to take on the likes of Pete Sanstol and win with relative ease, but Sanstol was more crude in his attack than Harada. Black Bill was also a noted swarmer that Wolgast fought.
Less so than about Midget Wolgast though, a fighter who would come in at 110 pound one day and 130 the next.
Re-watch the footage. As for the matchup, isn't it always assumed that we're taking both men at their best?
I know he aint just a angle using defensive fighter, but thats where I seen him as more comfortable in a Pep sort of boxing method. It has been a while since I watched the footage but thats the impression I got.
