I think Rudkin had more physical ability, workrate and offense than Davila though. He was more of a rough, complete fighter. Davila's output dropped under the slow methodical pressure of Pintor, who was also too strong and busy on the inside as the fight wore on.Similar situation here i'd guess.harada may not have been any stronger or tiring to fight up-close than Pintor, but at his best he threw more and had better speed\skills.
I grew up here in L.A. Herrera,Castillo, NO Body mentioned 2 GREATS jesus Pimental,Dwight Hawkins, Joe Medal NONE could take Harada ,he was THAT goood!!!!!:happy
one of rudkins opponents (Walter Mcgowan ) had top boxing skills and really good footwork and new how to get about the ring .mcgowan vs harada might of been a good fight , but then mcgowan had the handicap of being easily cut i would still pick harada to beat mcgowan ,just thought i would give mcgowan's name a shout
i was looking at one of my old programs recently and found out that walter mcgowan was a guest at one of my fights.im gutted i didnt know at the time
I think offensivly Davila was sharper than Rudkin with his fast hands and lovely crisp combinations. As for workrate I think Rudkin may have thrown more punches, but Davila's use of angles and lateral movement was almost constant. I agree with the rest though. I'm away to wathc the Pintor rematch Good shout, I think they were sort of lined up for after the Kingpetch rematch, although not immediatly. Yeh, his use of angles and short left hooks would have been a nice antitode to the swarming. Dic McTaggart was a guest at a show I boxed at on Friday, I was speaking away to him for a good 20 mins at the bar.
I had a great drink and a chat with Dick a few years back in London, lovely fella. Me dad and Dick shared a room at the 61 Europeans.
Aye topper of a guy. My bother was happy because he got a photo with him, then he came throgh to the bar and he sees me sitting talking to him. haha
i sparred with a bloke in the 70's who'd got a bronze in the olympics when dick got his gold.he said mctaggart would stop for a smoke when he was doing his roadwork
Talking about Olivares-Harada. Me dad said that Harada could of caused Olivares problems cos he wasn't as easy to hit clean as you might think and that he didn't give you the room to get good shots off. He said he that the Harada fight wasn't his hardest but probably the most physically tiring with Harada's strength.
whoever said jeff chandler really peaked my interest. pinpoint accuracy, reasonable power and (could be) calm under pressure. i think he could find the spots between haradas whirlwind rushes to give him fits
The Rose fight was not close, regardless of what the scorecards indicated. I also don't think Harada looked particularly out of shape or out of sorts in it. He probably wasn't 100%, but he didn't look bad, in my opinion. Lionel was just a bad, bad match-up for him. Don't think he'd have ever beaten the Rose of that night.
The Rose bout was in my mind when i said Lora could well do a lot better than some might think. He's got the right blend of speed, movement, counterpunching, infighting and defensive skill to make it very interesting.Harada's lack of real top end power or size makes the best bantam mobile stylists a tough prospect.
