@LitoCandela on Babybull vs JMM...Gr8 inside fight from bell to bell. I think that is why BabyBull met his match. He is a terror ....on the inside. JMM got game inside and out. Same with Katsidis IMO..only if he could've developed an outside game. I'd say the GOAT of inside fighting was JCC Sr. I'll limit it to (5) best fights in a phonebooth. 1. JCC vs Rosario 2. Toney vs Jirov 3. JMM vs Diaz 4. R Marquez vs I Vazquez 5. McCallum vs Toney
Good list. Yep, JCC Sr relentless waves of pain. This was CQ war. Ring FOTY 2006 - Somsak Sithchatchawal vs Mahyar Monshipour - WBA SB strap This content is protected
I've watched this non-stop punchfest a few times. Oo-la-la..commentators could've found a better quote , but hey...good pick.
Corrales-Castillo 1 is the best phone booth fight and maybe the best fight ever. Not just a brutal fight, but also a terrific display of infighting.
Dwight Qawi-Eddie Davis was an exciting fight which a good deal was fought at close quarters. All 3 Bowe-Holyfield fights mixed between outside and inside fighting. Holyfield and especially Bowe were skilled up close. I remember Larry Merchant saying during the rubber match that the crowd was rather quiet, and that they couldn’t see a lot of the action because it was at close quarters, but it was terrific stuff. They definitely had some vicious exchanges, and Bowe’s uppercut was tearing Holyfield up. Nelson-French 1 was a good fight and bad decision, with some quality exchanges up close.
Sometimes crowds can add or take away a fight for people watching it on t.v. It reminds me of Glencoffe Johnson vs Tavaris Cloud. I thought that was great inside fighting, but for some reason the crowd was just dead.
Action packed but not very skilled. My recollection is that Monshipour was just throwing endless flurries of arm punches that Somsak just picked off, before sharply and clinically landing the straighter, harder, more accurate shots. Duran vs Pedroza or Toney vs Barkley and Armstrong vs Ross were things of beauty. Rios vs Alvarado 1 had really good inside boxing. Gatti vs Ward 1 had a lot of inside fighting too.
I watched Nelson-Fenech 1 last week. It was a busy fight, a good fight, but too imbalanced to really be a great fight. After about round three it's just Jeff Fenech mugging Nelson in the corner. I expected Joe Cortez to **** things up, but he didn't. Oddly enough, the scores looked a lot like the ones for Golovkin vs Canelo. I saw Dave Moretti's name on both bouts and wondered if this was a common strategy for crooked Vegas judges. One scores a draw, while the other two agree to score for each fighter. That's kind of what it looks like. Judge Miguel Donate's 112-116 isn't too far from Adelaide Byrd country. Maybe, somebody donated a little something to Miguel.
