im 5'10 215 i lost about 40 pounds was a lil over weight at one time when my dad was sick, but as much as i workout and eat healthy now my body just seems like its at its ideal weight.im sorta built like a tyson . do you think its in my best interest to try to get to 195-200 pounds to fight in lower class ( which i dont know if i can cause my body structure ,dont have much fat on me) or fight heavyweights , i am just starting by the way?? If Anyone is experienced with this let me know thanks
Don't waste your time thinking about it if your just starting. Focus on getting in fighting shape and developing sufficient technique, sparring time to get your first amateur bout. Once you start sparring, you and your coach will see your style, your ability to use your physical attributes and how much weight you can lose safely to make the decision. It's an adjustment process to find the right weight. I started as a cadet at 86kg, boxed at 91kg at junior, and then went down to 81kg as a senior, found it to be the wrong weight for me, so i moved back up to 91kg. My coach started at superheavy, lost a few bouts, dropped to heavy, lost some more but occassionally won, then went to light heavy and then he started winning.
build up your technique and work on getting into fighting shape then ask your coach what weight you should be fighting at. he should have a good idea.
Just get ready to fight and let the weight sort itself out. I think we're way too weight obsessed - look at the Russians, they don't seem to kill themselves to get to a low weight class, they just fight.
get in heavyweight,, u would be a lots faster and throw mean combos at biggest guys. like a frasier,, chagaev etc.. samll HW do good sometimnes.
