I'm not sure why, but Mijares went 180 and abandoned his boxing skills in favor of slugging with the stronger Vic.

This seems to be a pattern with great Mexican boxers who fight in Mexico. They have great boxing skills that we have seen in other venues other than Mexico but when its a Mexican venue or largely Mexican audience, the boxers are forced to abandon their skills and make it a pure slugfest otherwise they are derided by their Mexican fans.

I think Erik Morales had some great boxing skills but shortened his career trying to live up to the machismo when he would have extended his career just using his boxing skills. Its sad but it looks like Mijares is going to go the same route.

Is that supposed to be an excuse?
I hate Bernard Hopkins but he's always there to win, many times ugly but it's a win, that implies that you need to go with a plan to win and not to play to the crowd.

Mijares simply thought he could deal with the unorthodox style of VD, but once there he realized that it was very awkward and that he had the heavy hands to make it a long night too.
