Watch the Benitez-Palomino fight and you'll stop this thread right here. The most masterful performance of countering off the ropes you'll ever see.

Joe Medel was good at this, though it didn't always work, not in the Effren Torres. It did work for him though against Fighting Harada in the first fight and Walter McGowan although both were relatively inexperienced, specially McGowan.

I've always thought that Jones was bad at fighting of the ropes. With Jones' speed, he belongs no where near them. Pazienza was totally outclassed by Jones, but probably won the 2nd round of their fight when Roy elected to fight off the ropes. Part of the the problem is Jones didn't really fight off the ropes. Roy covered up and let his opponent swing away. Jones would start punching when his opponent stopped. It cost nearly cost him the first fight with Tarver, and did cost him against Johnson. Roy Jones has only recently tried disrupting his opponent's offense when his back is against the ropes.

I agree with those that posted Nelson and Toney.

My favourite examples would be Toney v Jirov and Hopkins v Trinidad.

Toney is an all-time great off-the-ropes fighter. Both Peter and Rahman at heavyweight refused to follow Toney to the ropes numerous times when JT tried to lure them there. Clearly their coaches had identified Toney's proficiency there and had instructed their charges accordingly.
