I agree that the latest fights make the officials and referees look bad but let's then also be consistent with these standards for everywhere else in the world...including the States. Can we agree on that ?

Should we give just a few examples through the years with outside fighters going in the US and getting short changed....

    Lewis vs Holyfield I ......

    How about Sturm vs DLH......

    Kotelnik vs Alexander of course......

Andre Ward not even getting 1 point deducted after 5 headbutts against Kessler.....

    and so on....

The important thing to consider is that Canada now looks bad cause there's less fights being shown and the bad outcomes all come in a short time span...which makes it look worse than it truly is.

I think there should never be judges from the same countries as the boxers fighting unless we're seeing two boxers from the same country / area go at it.

It's sad for Marlon Wright cause he truly is a good referee but one night ruins it all for him.

This. Plus Dawson vs Pascal or Bute can draw a crowd and make money, those fights in the US would be in a ballroom with 3000 people if they're lucky. I agree there should be a ref from a neutral country though.

Pretty sure the USA tried that, this was the result

Might work with Pascal.... With Bute, not soo sure... Bute is big money in Montreal and Quebec City...

When I seen Chad's cut I already knew the fight would be stopped... You see how much blood was coming out.... And How fast the blood was leaking out... It wasn't in a good spot..

Bute/Andrade.. Jay Nady and maybe Kenny Bayless would have stopped the fight... Jay Nady definitely..

Here's another thing, because of Bute, Librado Andrade has become a favorite in Montreal...Since the first Bute fight, I think alll of his other fights have taken place there... Bute 1 and 2, Tsypko and most recently, Eric Lucas....

I know a lot of people have a problem with this fight.

However, it has been confirmed multiple times now that Bute was up within ten seconds, even though the count was long Bute would have been up in time if the count has been the normal amount of time.

Also, Andrade DID keep stepping out of the neutral corner which is WHY the count was long. He was told not to, yet he did it anyway. I get it, Andrade was eager to get in there and finish the fight; but he still should have stayed in the goddamn neutral corner.

Bute was VERY close to losing, but it wasn't the ref that stopped that from happening, it was an over eager Andrade.

The United States of America tried to take Canada. It is called the war of 1812. They got their asses kicked. We burnt down the white house and sent those mangy Yanks running and crying. :smooch

If it makes you feel better, part of Alaska was originally part of Canada and was taken by the states in a mediated dispute. However, in retrospect, seeing the kind of trash that comes out of Alaska (Sarah Palin)... Maybe it was for the best.

Canada has health care, America does not. Canada's crime rate is much lower than America also.

Ward refused to fight in the tournament unless he got all his fights in his home town, yet I hear no complaints about him.

Dawson is so overrated and has not much on his punches that he cannot even pack a small arena anywhere in the US. When you can't knock anyone out and are in the least competitive division in a dying sport it comes with the territory.

I don't think you can blame the ref on this one, he stopped the fight after the doctor ordered it.Was the doctor to quick to call it quits? Maybe he could have waited until the end of the round.

The judge Woodburn 108-101 was lame but he said afterward that in put in the wrong name for the last round, giving it to Pascal. So we can say that his car is 107-102. Still a rookie mistake and he shouldn't be allow has a judge in one of Bute or Pascal fight.

But that sport being cruel and a boxer career being short , the fighters will still take the risk to come to Montreal because they want to make the most money for a risky fight. And the atmosphere is electric!

Pascal was no longer in trouble when the cut occured. He had recovered and I think that the last solid punch of the fight was landed by Pascal, not Dawson.

People need to stop rewriting history just to make controversy. Even if it was Dawson who landed the last punch (which I doubt), I don't think you can see without bias that "stopping the fight obviously benefited the hometown fighter." For all you know, Dawson could have been KTFO by Pascal in the 12th, don't forget Pascal hurt Dawson several times during the fight and won the 10th round. So that wouldn't benefit the hometown fighter who would have had a KO victory instead of a TD.

I was at the fight and close to the action and at no point in time were we worried that Dawson had a chance to stop Pascal. At no point at all. And if anything, after that flurry in the 11th round it seemed that Pascal was regaining the momentum of the round. And it also seemed like he took Dawson's best punch extremely well and that Dawson lost his will when that happened.

You wanna take fights OUT of the areas where the fans are excited to see them. How bad is that for the sport? Instead, the better thing would be for other promoters to build fanbases for their fighters like the one we have in Montreal. That way they could have the fight in their fighter's home town and make the same kind of money.

In a neutral venue I think about 70% of the refs/doctors would have stopped that fight. Does anyone have a pic of that thing? It was gushing blood like a volcano and it was pretty nasty as I remember.

    Interesting thing about Marlon Wright.
Look at this video from 2005 (Jean Pascal vs. Donnie Penelton).
    See something familiar?

So it's not like it's the first time for Marlon. Only then it was against a Canadian.
