In my entire life as a boxing fan I have only accused a fighter of "fighting scared" on one occasion. Fighting scared is a phrase I overall dont use or respect but I do think it applied to this fight. When I say I accused a fighter of fighting scared I mean I actually wrote the fighter a published letter and eventually got a reply from him. The fight was Juan Manuel Marquez-Derrek Gainer. Leading into the fight I expected Gainer to box, stay on the outside, use his height and reach while I figured Marquez would try to get inside and attack the body and head with quick combinations. At the time I was rooting for Marquez but believed Gainer to be one of the better up and coming fighters. Gainer unsurprisingly did fight on the outside but he did not box, he actually did run to avoid contact. During the fight Gainer appeared to be very fearful of Marquez power, he never challenged him, never stood his ground, never moved forward, never planted his feet, and never threw an aggressive punch in the fight. Gainer's only goal in the fight was to not get hit or hurt, winning the fight didn't even seem to be on his mind. The worse moment in the fight however came with an accidental clash of heads. Gainer's reaction to the headbutt was so extreme he went into panic mode waving at the ref to look at his head. He had a cut and milked it for all it was worth claiming he couldn't continue and having the fight waved off. It was a shameful performance and likely the beginning of the end of his career. I don't remember seeing another Gainer fight after that, maybe he fought again but I'm sure HBO dumped him from their roster. Fortunately Floyd Mayweather was the main event and his fight with N'dou was a brilliant virtuoso performance! So unless it's some of Tyson's early opponents or Gainer's performance against Marquez there really is no grounds to accuse any fighter of "fighting scared" its not something we see a lot of in boxing. These guys leave it in the ring, much respect...
Watched first round and a half. Couldn't watch anymore. Guy reminds me of a guy who tried to fight the way a mayweather hater thinks Mayweather fights.
They literally don't know anything about the sport when they claim Mayweather runs... it's such a ****ing sad way to observe something they disagree with, you can't just pejorate it because you can't grasp what he's doing... why follow a sport you have either no interest in learning about or haven't the brain cells to accept there's different routes to victory... I like Pacquiao, I like Floyd... both have been successful and both are all time greats, don't hate on either fighter, appreciate them.
Do you understand the difference between dancing in the last round of a fight when you are well ahead on the scorecards and running the entire fight, throwing no punches, and winning no rounds?
Yes Mayweather does often run around toward the end of 12 if he's got the fight in the bag, I don't like it but people act as if this is how Mayweather wins fights, he wouldn't win if he did that, would he, unless Vegas are all in his pocket.
Me too.these two has clearly the best resumes in this era of boxing.yes some fights did not happened,or they happened in wrong time.but that happens many times in boxing.troughout the history. If not these two fighters, the boxing would be in pretty dark age now.and that's the truth.and their rivalry over years have generated so much attention to boxing world.they made each others this big.
What an idiot, Code Red is. He can't admit that Mayweather was running in round 12. Are you kidding me??? Mayweather does NOT like to get hit. His own FATHER called him a coward. Be realistic. He did RUN in that 12th round. PERIOD. The fact that you gotta defend him, sheds the light on how pathetic your thread is.
But why would someone change what they are doing if they have dominated for 11 rounds? Why not do the same that things that made it clear that you won the first 11 rounds?
Speaking of Gainer, watch his fight with Kevin Kelly, he had the fight in the bag, had Kelly disabled with one eye, near the end he got coc ky , started trading with Kelly, got caught with a left hook and put to sleep. Floyd considers himself a smart fighter and smart means wise decisions every round, 1 - 12, no rookie mistakes period! It only takes one moment, one mistake, one punch in boxing...
