So I was sparring the kid I have a fight with Friday and ran into the fact that he is ambidextrous. I am a southpaw normally and he normally fights orthodox but after about the first round he switched to southpaw which needless to say confused the hell out of me. Now I am ambidextrous but don't fight nearly as well from the orthodox stance since I haven't really trained it/have no experience in the ring with it and I ended up switching to orthodox. This put us back at ortho v south but the roles reversed. This actually confused him for a little since he wasn't expecting me to be able to switch as well. After he realized I switched though it kind of turned into a mess with us both vying for our preffered match up style. Now my question is was this the right move? I don't have any real experience fighting ortho but I was much better able to deal with him fighting southpaw that way. As a side note I got hit in the liver for the first time and I didn't appreciate just how much that **** hurts.
Don't let him switch, if he does don't let it sike you out, I noticed that either way someone stance is, I catch the punches with the same hand.
When They switch dont go looking for them. Half a step back and let them do the looking its in the eyes.
If you're catching it right no. When you catch a punch you don't reach out for it, your hands will still be tucked in, only difference is your palm would be facing out
Have a complete offence and deal with what is in front of you. It depends on how he holds his hands, position his feet, aggressive, defensive etc Adjust your timing and distance to land whatever he is open for. Maximum damge can be achieve by always staying in position with a text book guard and stance. Cotto is relatively good at this.
