Fighting Taller Opponents

Discussion in 'Boxing Training' started by thejokerswild, Feb 21, 2012.

  1. Have many posters here had to fight somebody considerably taller?

On the weekend I had a bout with a preying mantis. He was defensive retreater very few targets, i found it hard to land a punch on, in the end i had to aggressively cut off the ring and launch bodywork like a fiend, i found it helped best but it's still a learning experience.

Any ideas? Any fights with tall fighter? Any tall fighters want to give something up? :hey

    Thanks.

i always fight taller opponents im 5ft 5in and i box at 57kg,you have to have good lateral movement and fitness try to smother you opponents work and most importantly as herol graham told me dont fall in when you launch attack,

dont try and throw single shots aswell jab your way in and switch attacks from head to body body to head. For me unconventional attacks such as these work :-

a)Right hand to the body one two to the head

b)Right hand to the body/left hook screw shot to the head

    c) one two to the head right hook to the body.

down ronnie davies gym in brighton in november he wsas doing some work with chris eubanks jr!

i was shocked when i saw him there because i always though eubnaks sr and herol didnt get on because of the time brendan ingle said at nazs press conference that eubanks got bashed up by herol graham and jonny nelson in sparring. Hes a nice guy though is herol and will give his advice to anyone he told me hes training some fighters out of a gym in Mill Hill North London

Use your distance and feints to make him throw punches to give you opportunities to counter. If he won't punch, come is behind your jab, work the body, give him angles and run him out of the ring.
