Yeah, we all know the Casual Boxing Fan. He knows who de la Hoya is, and maybe who Tyson and Lennox Lewis are. Other than that, he is one clueless pile of ****. He is a MASSIVE fan of the NFL and the NBA. He can quote stats off of college basketball players from 1987.

But ask this dip**** about Miguel Cotto and you get a confused look. Ask him about Toney, or Hopkins, or Ray Mancini and you get a blank stare. They also, all seem to think that "Muhammad Ali is ******ed from all those punches"

I'll admit myself as a hardcore fan that the Heavyweight Division is as weak as it was before Tyson took over the division, after Holmes got robbed against Spinks. But ask a casual fan who the Heavyweight Champion is and you get another braindead stare.

This Saturday, at homes around the States, these dummies, being that it is MLB season, will show up at fight parties, and not know who the **** Margarito or Cotto is.

The one great thing about them is asking them "What the **** do you know, asswipe" when they try to announce their pick.

    So what?

All they need is to get to watch their first Margarito/Cotto fight, and theyre surely not gonna be just casual boxing fans anymore.

And that is a good thing.

Dont get the point of this thread.

The casual fan was lost at some point and it is exactly what we need.Of course with that comes alot of uneducated and misinformed fans but oh well.

Actually, I thought the casual boxing fan would think Muhammad Ali was the greatest ever.. Never heard anyone talk down on Ali and they all seem to know that he's got a disease now.. BTW, I'm a massive fan of not only boxing, but the NFL & College FBall & BBall.. I could probably name the whole starting line up for each football team..

I wouldn't blame or talk down on some fans who don't know everything about boxing.. Some may not have the internet to study and learn the fighters or some might not even have satellite or cable.. A lot do act like they know what they're talking about, but once you starting talking about what you know, they'll look speechless... Also, boxing seems to have lost a lot of fans that it desirely needs back..

Which probably just turns them off to boxing, exactly the opposite of what is best for the sport.

my theory is that the guy on the game cover is at the peak of his powers so his career will always be down hill and will lose in the next 2 years, it makes sense in the end.

anvayz. im on a music forum and there was a thread on the cotto-margo fight and i got to say they had better posts on the subject than most of us. people do know about this fight, but usually just sports fans who are in the loop.
