Alejandro Cardona Dávila vs. Nestor Fernando García Reyes, 10 rounds @ welterweight

 

Close first, edge to Dávila with his powerful but wild overhands. García staying calm, roping out jabs while circling left, and clipping Dávila with some nice counters when he spots gaps.

 

García's nose is bloodied, yet he's grinning at how easily he's able to hang back and play catch & shoot. "Pájaro" Dávila - the clear favorite on paper, at 19-1-2 (7), and coming off his only pro defeat against Mikael Zewski - sure is unpolished. "La Chispa" García - the more dangerous puncher but also more fragile man with his glass cannon journeyman's record of 23-20-1 (17), stopped 14x - is having a field day landing jabs and then uppercuts while pivoting by the ropes. García down in the final ten seconds, but correctly ruled a slip.

Chispa García is starting to assume control, stifling Dávila, punching through his wide offense, backing him into the ropes and keeping him pinned there with a seamless barrage of hooks & uppercuts. Dávila only able to squat and pepper in a few body jabs while under fire.

If he springs this upset, I'm not sure it would be Chispa's best win...he did beat Carson Jones two years ago. Was a past-prime Jones, though...so kind of a toss-up as to whether he was then a better scalp than Dávila is now.

They're slinging big can-opener bombs at each other, ripping into the sides of each other's heads with no regard for defense. Chispa getting the best of exchanges as he's pumping out jabs, taking steady aim with them as well as disrupting Pajaro's sight & rhythm. Dávila landing flush in exchanges, so he's shooting blanks (feather-fist).

Dávila getting hammered and clinching to force a break and get unstuck from the ropes. Dávila then presses forward to take the play away from García upon a break, lashing up top with rights hurled off his rear shoulder, pushing off his rear foot for extra emphasis but not taking proper aim and getting smothered and raked with looping rights on the sides.

García with left jabs and short lead uppercuts, punishing Dávila's face whenever the gloves comes down, and then looping rights alternately into the body and temple at range. Dávila backs away from the level-changing attack, getting hit everywhere, but keeps taking hesitant steps forward seeing if he can get a lick in for his troubles on each sortie. Usually not.

Toe to toe pocket slugging, both swinging their arms out behind their backs and Newton's-cradling each other's ribs. Dávila starts to find success with a spearing lead right into the face of a perhaps tiring (and certainly less active) García. HUGE left hooks exchanged, both hurt, Dávila backing up but regroups and punches back.

García lying in wait, letting Dávila come to him and teeing off with jabs and rights, headhunting from a distance and then grappling or shredding the body when they close together. Dávila still finding occasional success with hail-Mary lead rights, but not as much as he was.
