FightNight Live: Carlos Amado Molina vs. Jorge Michel Muñoz Zavela RBR

They swap jabs as García backs up and then loops a right into the body. García backs up lazily, undefended, eating a left hook. Wincing and backing straight up, he is hit flush with a right hand that really hurts. Dávila then explodes with a looping right hand into the gut that sends García down like a ton of bricks! On his back, rocking side to side, taking a full ten count!!

That was a JMM vs. Pac IV style right hand - I'm honestly impressed García didn't go down from that. But it did make him a sitting duck for that body shot, which is probably going to necessitate a colostomy bag.

 

Guy covered head to toe (white hazmat suit tucked into boots with polypropylene shoe covers, blue surgical mask, baseball cap and goggles) comes in to hose down the ring between fights.

 

The "Songbird" just scored a come from behind kayo against "The Spark", if you're wondering about the meanings of their ring names.

 

Interesting sidenote: "King" Carlos Molina, who's coming up in the main event and is tonight's promoter, fought & stopped Chispa García in February - but it took him until round 10...one longer than Dávila.

Round 1

Muñoz is covering up as Molina jabs to head and body. Muñoz tries drilling a right hand down into the back of the head as Molina scurries in to jab the stomach - only grazng. Nice right hand by Molina. Hissing through his teeth, Molina backs up and sweeps lefts and rights into Muñoz's ears, then lets jabs and straight rights travel down the pipe. Muñoz is rowing out a jab and pressing the right side of his face into the palm of his right glove, cheating away 45 degrees in a defensite posture.

Round 2

Muñoz is slapped on either side of the head by a smiling Molina; they are friends outside the ring, explain the commentators. So don't hold your breath for Molina to gun for a brutal highlight reel KO. He booked this looking to get some rounds in and cruise to a UD, most likely. To be fair, even if he was gunning for one, I'm not sure he'd get it as most of Muñoz's eight stoppage defeats have come against hard-hitting prospects. Molina does make him stumble with a straight right atop the crown, however, and Muñoz looks in poor nick, a bit of a spare tire, so he may gas and call it a day soon. Molina looking to have a light spar and Muñoz barely seems up for even that, missing his cues and telegraphing his counters, missing badly, and getting dragged off-kilter by Molina's hooks.

Round 3

Molina is hardly breaking a sweat, putting up a 1-2, repeating it a couple of times and then expanding to a 1-2-3, and then changing it up and faking the jab to pump a lead right into Muñoz's face. Just tagging him with anything he wants. Throwing lightly enough to not make him crumble on impact, but snapping Muñoz's head back at times and forcing him to clinch. Muñoz slaps a left into the chest of Molina, but leaves his arms splayed apart in another grabbing attempt instead of retracting to defend himself and is rocked.

Round 4

Molina's corner yelling at him to "stop getting hit by that stupid ****ing right hand" - tbf, he is sort of clowning around in there, playfully dropping combos all over and backing straight out, not tightening up as he ought to considering that Michi can actually crack a bit. Still very one-sided, 90% of the landed punches belonging to Molina. Starting to mix in body as often as head now, working that soft gut of Muñoz with big hooks.

Kinda wish I'd known Michi was Carlos' homeboy prior to shelling out my $5...


Oh well, Pájaro vs. Chispa was actually worth the Abe Lincoln by itself.

 

Round 5

More of the same. Quantity a big edge to Molina, quality a slight edge (as he's doing pretty sloppy work tbh), and power a big edge to Muñoz but Molina is riding those right hands on his way out and never taking one's full brunt. Molina starts piling up some big shots in the final minute, could be seeing the last bit of wind in Muñoz's lungs. Body shots and whiffs have taken a toll.

Molina dropping overhands, backing Muñoz into the ropes, then driving uppercuts into the bottom of his chin like a wedge, leaving him swaying backward and vulnerable to jabs & rights on the flab of his abdomen. Muñoz soaking everything up, barely punching back anymore.
