I am doing an exercise to see how many fights occurred in the following twelve months between Ring's top 10 year-end heavyweights, bear with me as this is a slow process. Feel free to grab a decade and do the work for me!! I did a tester for year end 1970 and was amazed to find only one fight in 1971 between the top 10 but I need much more information to draw any conclusion.
    2011-3
    2012-1
    2013-1
    2014-2
    2015-4
    2016-0
    2017-2
    2018-5
    2019-2
    2020-2
    2021-2.
The year quoted is the year of the fights, if you follow me. I wouldn't get too hung up on whether you agree with the precise top ten, it should balance out. There will be anomalies, eg Chisora was not in any top ten, he could be in a lot and this would add a lot of contests. I have taken the Ring champion and top 9 contenders; top ten contenders if the title was vacant. This exercise may prove or disprove several myths or claims.

What an awesome idea. Meaning though if say the fight happened in 1990 they had to be rated top ten in 89 or by years end?

Yes, basically how many fights took place in the following year of the year-end top 10, eg how many of the 1989 year-end top ten, fought another of that top ten in the calendar year 1990.

it's a good exercise overall and it can also be carried out for Each Year Separately too...

i.e 1970 Year End, Top 10, meeting as you said at some point in 1971, but you can also do the Monthly Top 10's for the same 1971 and then Sum up at the End of 71, just how many Contenders & Champions actually meet one another for the Full Year.

    a good Exercise, Kudo's Sir.

It’s a shame an actual fantastic post…one that provides good data for everyone is not getting more play. You should have said the name Marciano in the title would have gotten a lot of trolls at least. If everyone helps put on a serious note could have a nice set of data

I edited The final tally for the 50s. Lot more fights then by far. I’m sure it increases per decade, but hopefully it gets done. I think stats like this are important when viewing people’s records.
