I wouldn't want to be hit by Huni either, but he isn't a big hitter. Ruiz is quick handed, sure, but by heavyweight standards, he is slightly above average.

Spinks and Eddie Mustafa Muhammad are two of the harder punchers in history at 175. Admittedly Eddie can be a bit conservative and likes to counter but man there was some power in that ring.

Show some comments by different Andy Ruiz opponents about his power.

Andy Ruiz Jr. is often characterized by his hand speed, but those who have shared the ring with him frequently highlight a "heavy" and deceptive power that stems from his ability to land combinations.

Here is what some of his most notable opponents and sparring partners have said:

    Chris Arreola
After their 2021 fight, Arreola made a surprising comparison between Ruiz and one of the hardest punchers in boxing history:

"Andy for sure... Andy still hits harder [than Deontay Wilder]. And the reason I say is like he has fast hands, his combinations are [fast], and he’s strong as heck. He’s low to the bottom. Like Wilder... he only has that right hand, but he has to get you in the end of the punch."

    Joseph Parker
The former WBO champion, who handed Ruiz his first professional loss in a close decision, recalled a sparring session from 2013 that left a lasting impression:

"In a sparring session in 2013, he struck me so hard, he ripped my mouth open. I couldn't eat for about three days. So I know he's got a lot of power and experience."

    Anthony Joshua
Following their first bout in 2019, Joshua spoke about the specific "equilibrium shot" that changed the course of the fight:

Joshua noted he was "caught off guard by a blow to the temple which visibly staggered him."

He described Ruiz as having "successions of heavy punches" rather than just a single heavy blow, which made it difficult to recover once he was buzzed.

Andy Ganigan and Rodolfo Gonzalez somehow went the distance. There were a lot of knockdowns tho. Talking raw power Ganigan is in the mix for hardest hitting 135 ever. God he could punch.
