Firstly this obviously related to the Vitali-Lewis fight and so on. Lewis won the fight fair and square within the rules of the game, nobody should have any problems there.

However if a fight is extremely close on the cards and the fight has to be stopped on a freak cut (I say freak cut because its not exactly as if Vitali is Hatton), is a rematch the right thing to do or the manly thing to do. If there is a rematch and the same thing happens then someone like Vitali isnt built for a fighter like Lewis.

No arguments about Lewis not taking the fight because he knew he was too old to do it and so retired rather than losing becasue I assume that is also the general consensus.

So its simple, in this kind of case is a rematch the best thing or was it not really needed because Lewis had done enough.

Lewis would have definately got him KO'd in the next round, no question.

If you have an unintentional but causing a cut that goes to the cards and one guy was totally dominating, no rematch necessary. If you have the same situation and the fight is very close or the loser was turning the momentum of the figh, then a rematch would be the right thing for the winner to do. In the event of a fight stopping due to punch damage cuts, no rematch necessary.

Of course, no matter what the situation, the rematch is entirely up to the winner barring a rematch claus in the contract. If they want to do it, and the fans are calling for it... go for it.

The Klit-Lewis fight that is bringing this on could fall under that latter example. A lot of people WOULD have liked to see a rematch, but leading into the fight it wasn't viewed as career defining fight for Lewis. Lewis's career was well established and he was known to be on his way out. The people who kept screaming for a rematch were the legions of rabid fanboys. I would have liked to see a rematch, but after the 100th time Lennox said he was going to stay retired I, like most normal people, moved on to fighters who are actually currently fighting.

By Freak Cut I mean that 1 punch in a million that causes a serious cut that was seen in the lewis fight to a fighter who isnt usually prone to it such as Hatton.

Dont get me wrong if that kind of cut came from a absolute hammering from a boxer its fair enough but in a close fight like that its unlucky. So its unfortunate that it took a stroke of bad luck for the fight to end although it was a fair win for Lewis.
