Awesome versatile fighter who was both a boxing technician and a rugged scrapper. Could box at any distance, had nice footwork, good defense. Great combination puncher, especially when he flurried in the last seconds of a round. He liked to mix it up and exchange in tear ups, although he did lack power behind his punches. His chin was practically made of titanium as he was never stopped in his career, only Ike Williams and Carmen Basilio were able to drop him. Also gave Sugar Ray Robinson two tough fights but just fell short twice. Very entertaining fighter to watch. I think his style was ahead of his time and he would have done well in any era.
