Santos-Medal is a fight that I've never gotten. Santos beat up Medal for most of the fight and there were rounds when Medal was just taking it and barely fighting back. I wouldn't even have that as the best Carlos Santos fight of the decade. I'm sure that if I ever see Buster Drayton vs. Said Skouma in full I will hail it as the best junior middle fight of the '80s and probably the best fight of all time, any weight. My flyweight pick would probably be Oguma-Park III or Chitalada-Bernal II. Leaning more towards the latter at the moment. (Edited to add that I totally forgot about Bassa-McAuley when I wrote that. I'm not 100% sure that I'd have it above the two I listed, but I'm not 100% sure that I wouldn't.)
Never understand all the fuss about the Medal vs Santos fight for me its not even the best Santos fight (that would be Santos vs Drayton). As for Drayton vs Skouma i was of the impression that the full fight exists i dont remember much about that fight but now im curious. As for Skouma his fight with Jimmy Cable is a good candidate at 154.
When I put Santos-Medal on my list it was actually because I couldn't think of a better fight at light middle for that era as there was a paucity of great fights. Santos-Medal is definitely the weakest fight on my list. I also forget about Hilton-Drayton, although that's a very good rather than unambiguously great fight imo.
Hargrove vs Don King was great.. Verry good fight as is Hearns-Minchillo Curry-Mccallum Medal-Hargrove
